Electrical Construction Management Intern

The Cummings Electrical Construction Management Internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on field experience to understand field production and processes on large commercial construction projects. The goal is for each intern to develop proper knowledge and understanding of electrical construction methods, materials and sequences. With supervised practice, the intern will assist the Area Supervisor and/or the Superintendent in the field with coordination and distribution of information required to construct the project on time, within budget and to quality standards.
While the specifics of each internship will be shaped by the project an intern is assigned to, our goal by the end of your internship is that you will have gained exposure to: Safety, Scheduling, Processes & Production, Resource Loading and Projections.
Interns will be assigned a specific Superintendent to work with directly to achieve the internship goals by assigning appropriate work duties.
Responsibilities

Assist in managing and developing the construction schedule Assist in the preparation and maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily and weekly reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets Assisting in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating work groups on the jobsite and supervising field operations Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision Assisting in field surveying and work layout support Assist the Superintendent with obtaining information and approvals for processing shop drawings and submittals Providing field support and supervise subcontractor operations Order and schedule material deliveries, verifying shipment and documentation Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training Assist Superintendent with interpreting plans, performing material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents Monitor cost control, quality, productivity and safety on projects Disseminate Construction information to appropriate parties Monitor field variations and keep the Project Superintendent informed of any changes Uphold safe working conditions and preventative safety measures and ensure compliance and enforcement of safety program at all times Maintains positive working environment for entire site team Other duties as assigned that are not included, but are within the context of duties defineWORKING CONDITIONS
Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow. Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Potty’s). Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them at all time (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.). Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladders by one's self. Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1 - 250 lbs., Class 1A - 300 lbs. Perform work at various heights, up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas. Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics). Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat and safety glasses at all times) and respirator when required. Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts.PHYSICAL FUNCTION
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead. Lift 51 pounds, 20 times per day. Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers. Constantly moving on your feet. Climb ladders (all types). Completing overhead work for full day assignments. Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use. Possess good vision (normal or corrected). Possess good hearing (normal or corrected). Ability to read and comprehend written instructions including jobsite directions, maps, and instructional manuals. Ability to follow verbal instructions.

REQUIREMENTS
Must be actively enrolled in a four-year Bachelor's degree program with at least two (2) years of education and demonstrate interest in the electrical construction industry Ability to relocate to DFW for the duration of the program Hold a strong academic record Excellent communication & written communication skills Collaboration and organizational skills Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs Exhibits professionalism, attention to detail and desire to work in a team environment Basic knowledge of commercial building construction activities Ability to interact and collaborate with diverse groups of people Capable of identifying problems and recommending corrective actions Strong ability to demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Must be able to obtain a Texas Electrical Apprentice LicenseEmployment is subject to background check and drug screen. Must be eligible to work in the United Staes without sponsorship.
