Mechanical Engineer II

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer II, you'll provide engineering expertise to ensure reliable performance, troubleshooting assistance, design services, and continuous improvement work in your focus area (loading dock, HVAC, plumbing, or roofing systems) across warehouse, manufacturing, and administrative facilities.

We are looking for:
- a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering
- 5+ years of experience in focus area
- Texas Engineer-in-Training Certification (preferred)

What is the work?
Engineering:
Dock Systems
- Performs evaluation of GC design proposals; guides appropriate equipment selection for each application
- Develops / continually refines loading dock design standards; works with Procurement team on manufacturer and equipment selection for best system performance, life cycle, and first cost
- Periodically reviews performance and operational history of installed systems with IFS Buildings & Grounds mechanical maintenance teams; uses CMMS system data to validate strategy and inform capital planning
- Observes new construction and capital replacement work to ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications and industry standards
- As subject matter expert, applies experience, knowledge of loading dock equipment operation and maintenance to aid in troubleshooting and repair of performance and operational issues
- Prepares / presents 5-year capital plan for dock equipment replacement strategy to leadership
HVAC
- Performs heating and cooling load calculations to spot check GC design proposals; guides appropriate equipment selection for each application
- Develops / continually refines HVAC and BMS design standards; works with procurement team on manufacturer and equipment selection for best system performance, life cycle, and first cost
- Periodically reviews performance and operational history of installed systems with HVAC and mechanical maintenance teams; uses CMMS system data to validate strategy and inform capital planning
- Observes new construction and remodel work to ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications and industry standards
- As subject matter expert, applies experience, knowledge of HVAC systems, principles, and BMS control strategy (Niagara) to aid in troubleshooting and repair of performance and operational issues
Plumbing
- Performs plumbing pipe sizing and fixture count analysis
- Provides engineering support for design, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of campus water utility systems from utility meter to building entrance for multiple campus locations
- Maintains campus water utility infrastructure design standards and line diagrams
- Creates / maintains fixture selection catalog for plumbing equipment (e.g., WC fixtures, drinking fountains, flow meters, backflow preventors, water heaters)
- Works day-to-day with consulting engineers and contractors as needed
- Provides input to GC and design teams on regulatory / code compliance and H-E-B design specifications for plumbing systems
- Resolves outstanding system performance issues; recommends best solutions to fix or mitigate persistent water supply or sanitary sewer problems
- Keeps current on latest technical innovations in plumbing equipment and fixtures; maintains professional / technical knowledge; reviews professional publications, participates in professional societies; attends training / educational workshops
Roofing Systems
- Manages roof asset program and 10-year capital plan
- Maintains comprehensive records for all MWT roof systems (e.g., CAD drawings, design documents, aerial photographs, material quantity take-offs)
- Schedules / budgets for periodic third-party condition assessments; serves as primary vendor contact
- Liaises with D&C design team for architectural detail changes based on inspections and roof performance
- Works day-to-day with consulting engineers and contractors as needed to ensure quality project delivery
- Provides input to GC and design teams on insurance requirements, code compliance, and H-E-B design specs
- Resolves outstanding system performance issues; recommends best solutions to fix or mitigate persistent roof leak or condensation problems
- Keeps current on latest technical innovations in roofing; maintains professional / technical knowledge; reviews professional publications, participates in professional societies; attends training / educational workshops

Project Management:
- Visits project sites; recognizes / documents / resolves issues to comply with design intent and construction documents
- Provides outstanding customer service that delivers effective solutions to meet customer needs
- Executes clear work plans, processes, and actions to support H-E-B's overall strategies and best interests, and achieve results
- Provides expertise to cross-functional teams

What is your background?
- BS in mechanical engineering (ABET accredited program)
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (in your area of focus) in plant environments
- Texas Engineer-in-Training cert. (EIT / FE) (preferred)

Do you have what it takes to be a fit as an H-E-B Mech Eng?
- Working knowledge of REVIT, AutoCAD, and MS Office
- Strong understanding of systems and equipment related to your area of expertise for typical warehouse, fleet, and manufacturing plants
