Job Summary
Battelle’s Defense & Material Solutions business line is seeking a Systems Engineer with experience with the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC). This position is contingent on program award.
As a Systems Engineer you will develop recommended technical architecture artifacts and perform systems engineering research, analysis, investigations, reviews, and assessments of existing test and experimentation architecture plans and solutions. You will assist in the development of strategic plans and recommendations to expand the use of JMETC environments across the DoD RDT&E communities. You will work closely work with scientists, physicists, electrical & mechanical engineers, network & computer engineers and cybersecurity experts within Battelle’s Defense & Material Solutions business line to understand customer needs and design novel solutions in support of the DoD’s Test Resource Management Center and the JMETC’s distributed test & evaluation capability. You will analyze system performance requirements and develop solution requirements for test & evaluation gaps and then plan, develop, design, manage, and test holistic systems solutions. Tailors and applies systems engineering techniques and processes to meet project objectives within constraints. Balances systems thinking and systems engineering best practices over the full range of technology maturity levels.
The desired position location is at our Columbus, OH office with flexibility to work remotely or from other Battelle Offices within the United States.
Responsibilities
Design and maintain requirements, architectures, and system designs for complex distributed test & evaluation systems including Live-Virtual-Constructive simulation events. Extending existing system designs to fit new use cases and new requirements specifications. Leverage new technologies to integrate legacy DOD T&E capabilities into the distributed interactive simulation & LVC environment. Performs complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for analysis of requirements and systems performance. Assess legacy DOD T&E capabilities and develop plans to improve interoperability and readiness. Support development of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) artifacts across a portfolio of products and applications Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to client, both formal and informal. Conducts and/or leads small technical projects or tasks of technical projects. May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints. Builds relationships with internal and external clients and presents research results. Communicates with client with regard to the schedule and quality of deliverables.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field with +10 years of experience; or master’s degree in related field with 7 years of experience 5 years of experience working with the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability and the Test & Training Enabling Architecture Strong background in model-based systems engineering Experience in SysML diagramming tools (Cameo System Modeler, IBM Rhapsody, etc.) Experience leading technical system design discussions with internal and external stakeholders Experience creating and maintaining requirements baselines for project execution through the full product lifecycle. Experience creating system of systems functional decomposition documents, interface control documents (ICDs) and describing requirements to external performers/stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent communication and teamwork skills Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance

Experience with DOD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) Experience on DoD programs Experience with MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object-oriented programming languages Experience working with Embedded Systems Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance
