Medicaid Billing Specialist Job Description:

In this position, you will work with facilities to identify and process Medicaid Pending cases, Redeterminations, Bill and Collect Accounts Receivable in accordance with current applicable accounting and cost reimbursement principles relating to the long-term care operations, and as may be directed by the Regional Accounts Receivable Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Timely and accurate AR billing and collections based upon payers guidelines and requirements for facilities
  • Work with families in gathering appropriate documentation for Medicaid application and redeterminations.
  • Review Pending Applications with Business Office Manager to assure timeliness of authorizations and assists with redeterminations.
  • Travel to facilities to gather information and work with families.
  • Stay current with intermediary procedural changes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports, including all accounts, journals, deposits, ledgers, etc. 
  • Ensure staff comply with Privacy Practices and to protect residents' health information and report any abuses (e.g., EEO, OSHA, patient rights, fraud/abuse laws)
  • Keep timely, accurate and complete records and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Must possess an associate's degree in accounting and/or an equivalent of two (2) years training and experience in health care accounting, billing & collections. 
  • Must have as a minimum two (2) years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting practice. Experience in health care accounting preferred but not required.
  • Knowledgeable in various payment sources as needed and assists Business Office Manager when necessary.
  • Diligent in collections
