Position Summary

The IT Director, Lean Agile Center of Excellence (LACE) is responsible for the continued adoption and enhancement of Lean-Agile principles and practices across Marathon Petroleum's IT delivery environment. In so doing, the Director maximizes customer value creation by rapidly improving organizational throughput, quality, and delivery. The LACE Director acts as the inspirational champion and structural leader for Agile transformation across various portfolios while focusing on critical aspects such as Agile coaching, training, capability improvement, delivery lifecycle, organizational change management, and performance management. The role requires a combination of leadership, strategic thinking, and deep knowledge of Agile principles and practices.

Accountable for business results primarily achieved through the work of others. Manages staff, sets direction, and deploys resources. Has responsibility for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions. Accountable for business, functional or operational areas, processes, or programs.

Key Responsibilities

Defines, implements, evolves, and matures the organization's Lean-Agile practices, educating and mentoring all levels of the organization. Serves as the Practice Owner to foster and leveraging Agile techniques and governance to influence mindset shifts and drive toward value delivery. Defines and manages Agile roles and responsibilities across the product development lifecycle and Agile-related Communities of Practice. Providing leadership and vision for the Lean-Agile transformation to increase maturity and achieve strategic and operational Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Leads managers and IT professionals through guidance, coaching, and support to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines, policies, and procedures. Understands the overall organizational vision and translates it into team goals aligned with departmental and organizational goals. Creates a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement and leads teams through periods of change and transformation. Collaborates and provides strategic guidance to build and maintain relationships with senior key stakeholders, department heads, and senior management on technology-related matters including risks, opportunities, potential impacts, and prioritization. Will serve as the escalation point for Agile related issue and resolution throughout the organization. Ensures cost-effective technology solutions are in place to meet those needs and is able to respond with agility to changing business priorities. Oversees the planning, design, implementation, and measurement of IT systems and ensures a balance between growing the agility required to achieve business objectives and ensuring core IT functions are reliable, stable, secure and efficient. Sets quality strategies and performance objectives for driving the LACE capability maturity, monitoring progress against agreed criteria while establishing regular channels of communication to assess related performance measurement and metrics. Provides guidance on the implementation of large or complex projects and oversees progression while ensuring the department program portfolio is managed effectively through governance and planning processes. Engages in initiatives as needed to facilitate the realization of value and work with sponsorship to evaluate the achievement of value. Manages the department budget and financial resources including but not limited to technology services, software, hardware, and expense tracking ensuring the most effective use to maximize outcomes. Stays abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes, and provides direction on which emerging technologies should be introduced, integrated, and assimilated to improve operational effectiveness and manage risk. Participates in the evaluation and selection of vendors, review of contracts and management of vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and reliable IT services and solutions. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on the development of the technology capability roadmap. Collaborates on the development of IT policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring they are up to date and in line with area of responsibility and industry standards. Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborates with management on the design of an organizational structure and operating model to meet business objectives. Leads the organizational change management initiatives, to influence desired agile capability improvement(s), influencing and managing both the technical and people aspects of change to meet critical business needs while adhering to time constraints. Responsible for recruitment, development, retention, performance management, and succession planning that will lead to a strong talent pipeline. 

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other computer-related degree required. 12+ years of diversified IT experience required. 5+ years managing first level leaders and high-level professional staff required. 3-5+ years leading Agile teams (Required) 2-3+ years leading an Agile deployment and/or Agile Center of Excellence (CoE) (Required) Experience applying related SAFe® best practices and integration with other key functions (Preferred) Applied experience and understanding of Agile work management systems (Required) Applied experience and understanding of Agile roles and responsibilities (Required) Applied experience and understanding of Agile metrics and measurement (Required) Related SAFe® Certifications and/or completed training preferred.
