ECORSE PUBLIC SCHOOLS is located in the metropolitan Detroit area. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. - students from the downriver area, Ecorse, Lincoln Park, Allen Park, Melvindale, Wyandotte, River Rouge, and the Metro Detroit area. The Ecorse Public Schools district is comprised of one elementary school (GSRP K-3), one Middle School (4-8) one high school (9-12), and two credit recovery programs ages 16-19 years old. A new facility will be opening this Fall for our own Early Childhood Program.

JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY: 

Ecorse Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified speech-language pathologist. The speech-language pathologist will work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and social/cognitive communication deficits that interfere with the students ability to participate in the general education curriculum or educational program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and

educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance
with state and school division requirements and best practice

Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with

Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for students with speech/language as
service on an annual basis or according to requirements

Comply with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claiming, including obtaining

written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served and timely filing of claims
that meet Medicaid standards

Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating specific

techniques and working with school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent
interventions for targeted Students

Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed

confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for
which are maintained according to FERPA guidelines

Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, and

pragmatic language

Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrative and

school staff

Participate in various meetings to address student goals and needs,

and to meet laws and policies

Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students Implement and comply with District policies and procedures Perform related duties as assigned by the administration by the school

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of and skills in administering, scoring, and interpreting communication Knowledge and understanding of child development and communication development. Knowledge of and skills in best practices specific to various speech disorders Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior. Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping. Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other

technology in instruction.

Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and Ability to maintain confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Master in Speech-Language Pathology and State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders Superior verbal and written communication skills ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred valid Michigan State certification with appropriate licenses. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to remain in a stationary position. The employee frequently needs to move about inside the classroom and occasionally throughout the building to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee will communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee may need to travel to different work locations. The position requires the employee to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff, and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Compensation, length of the workday, and the number of workdays are based on the W-WEA collective bargaining agreement.
