Champions Nylok’s innovation process from market segment analysis to customer insights, to new product development, and into commercialization via new product launch. After training for VOC at Nylok, lead the customer needs work via outside-in, voice-of-the-customer engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Verifies market segment value for next new product focus. Directs VOC work with “outside/in” focus. Develops prototypes and tests for function/performance. Works with outside material suppliers to procure samples for building prototypes. Plans and develops test programs for prototypes. Analyzes test reports to ensure accuracy. Engages with customers and internal cross functional teams including marketing, engineering and operations resources, as well as Nylok strategic suppliers. Manages cross functional teams i.e. technical sales, quality, manufacturing engineering, etc. Engages with 3rd party testing agencies related to testing industrial products. Collaborates with plant manufacturing leaders to determine if prototype concepts are designed for manufacturing. Recruits and mentors early-in-career hires. Supports robust internship programs. Communicates across various levels of the organization. Understands patent protocols and has a high regard for confidentiality as it relates to new product development.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent required. 10 years relevant experience required. Experience in product development with polymers, thermoplastics, nylon materials and pre-applied adhesives a plus. History of successful material development. Project Management experience required. Understanding of patent process or patent holder a plus. Experience/knowledge of the Fastener Industry a plus. Experience leading, gathering data, analyzing data regarding VOC Blueprinting Customer Discovery interviews (although there will be an opportunity to learn this after onboarding). Strong technical background in chemical adhesives, sealants and lubricants a plus. Experienced in leading a team. Experienced in presenting technical data related to NPD to engineering/technical groups. Working knowledge of automotive test specifications and/or engineering drawings. Knowledge of P&L statements for the business a plus.

Under general direction, responsible for a range of highly complex engineering tasks in new product development projects associated with design proposals, testing, feasibility analysis, mathematical modeling, sample building, manufacturing processes assessment, etc. to develop and implement new methods, designs and products. Writes engineering specifications and interprets/analyses test results. Handles complex assignments and trains junior staff. Role typically requires more than 5 years of experience.
