Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The DCVPA Principal serves as the leader of the school, developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member. The DCVPA principal will report to and collaborate closely with the DCVPA Executive Director to strengthen and embody the vision and mission of the university-school partnership. The DCPVA principal will cultivate healthy relationships between faculty, staff, families, community partners, and UNCW. The DCVPA principal will advocate for the needs of the students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities include Serve as chief administrator for operations: building management, budget, decision making, and personnel management Oversight of student performance, growth, data, evaluations and disciplinary actions Provide feedback (celebratory, directive, non-directive), observations, and works with students directly, lead planning/curriculum/assessment, school meetings, walkthroughs, office work prep. Creates professional development opportunities and establishes goals that support the vision and mission of the school and the university. Forms strategic partnerships to enhance the school’s work and garner additional resources for schools. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of a program that meets the public school administration program approval standards set by the State Board of Education. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a principal. Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience, including at least 2 years as an Assistant Principal or comparable experience in leading adults. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Doctorate degree. 5 or more years of experience in a similar role. Experience working in a Title I school. Evidence of transformational outcomes in teaching and learning at a previous school. Extensive training in discipline, restorative practice, exceptional children’s services, multi-tiered system of supports, budget, planning, evaluation system, crisis management. Demonstrate strong knowledge in general education subjects with a specific focus on foundational literacy and math. Ability to co-lead, plan and work collaboratively with candidate/ student teachers and principal interns. Required Certifications or Licensures Valid professional educator license in the State of North Carolina Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy, a UNCW Lab School, supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in kindergarten through eighth grades.
