Interpreter – Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Position Details

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree, 60 credits Fully qualified educational interpreter with an EIPA of or above Must hold a Michigan Educational Endorsement (elementary preferred). Must be fluent in various forms of communication including ASL or the form of sign language determined by the educational team. Demonstrates a command of both written and oral English including correct syntax, semantics and spelling. Completes continuing education units required by the state of Michigan to maintain licensure. Maintains cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the public while maintaining student confidentiality. Works effectively as part of a team of professionals. Exemplifies appropriate professional behavior which includes demonstrating a high moral character, a warm and receptive attitude toward students who are deaf/hard of hearing in need of interpreting services, regardless of language or cognitive abilities. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Physical abilities sufficient to frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and/or lifting. May be required to facilitate medical needs of students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience working with students in a school setting. Interpersonal skills sufficient for prolonged and effective contact with students with disabilities. Experience with Special Education Students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Ability to implement program and following specific behavior intervention program requirements for students with disabilities. Willingness to train in First Aid/CPR and implement nonviolent verbal and physical interventions. Lifting, toileting, and assisting student in other personal hygiene areas Help students with getting on and off the school bus. Playground/lunchroom supervision Other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or Director of Special Education

LENGTH OF CONTRACT : School year

SALARY/BENEFITS : According to the Paraprofessional Master Agreement, Close-knit family atmosphere,8 sick days – 2 personal days per year, Various paid holidays, Insurance benefit 30 + hours/week, Longevity after 5 years of service
