Job Summary
Under the general supervision of an attorney or manager, applies advanced knowledge of complex legal concepts and processes to assist in the more efficient operation of the law department by undertaking a variety of paraprofessional duties.
 
Specifically, our Senior Paralegal, Employment Law and Employee Benefits role provides general paralegal support on employment law matters while conducting legal research, investigating claims and preparing factual and legal research summaries. Additional areas of impact include: 

Prepares draft position statements and responses to administrative claims filed before federal, state and local agencies. Investigates and responds to attorney demand letters and administrative requests for information (, federal and state DOL audits). Provides litigation support for single-plaintiff and class/collective action employment matters, including managing and coordinating responses to discovery requests and working directly with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to collect and assess documents and electronic stored information to respond to same. Helps develop and implement critical internal policies and templates and responds to a variety of issues involving customer, employee, and third-party claims. Assists in-house counsel with preparing for mediations, depositions, administrative hearings and trials. Stays current on changes in laws and procedures specifically relating to employment law and employment benefit matters. Provides support for the compensation and benefits legal area, including ERISA litigation, benefit plan documentation, vendor agreements and employee claims/appeals. Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with key internal stakeholders. Perform other legal and operational tasks as required to execute on business priorities
 
Job Responsibilities Works independently on a variety of legal matters, including negotiation with outside/opposing counsel and resolution of legal issues. Effectively and regularly communicates with legal counsel, staff and business to understand goals and achieve objectives. Works in coordination with Legal Counsel on complex legal issues and administers law department activities. Researches highly complex legal issues and relevant topics relating to Walgreens business operations.  Investigates facts and applicable law and searches pertinent sources. Independently develops oral and/or written presentations to communicate findings. Represents Company externally to customers, vendors, opposing counsel and government agencies and resolves legal issues using negotiation and legal experience. Demonstrates independent judgment and critical thinking to proactively identify issues, appreciate commercial/operational impacts and report on findings to internal and external stakeholders. Analyzes contracts, pleadings, statutes, decisions, correspondence and other documentation to independently evaluate legal position and makes recommendations to attorneys based on legal precedence or law. Drafts legal documents, communications and reports under minimal attorney supervision. Provides guidance by training, coaching or mentoring other paraprofessionals and/or other staff.
