Job Description

Basic Purpose

Respond to questions from the public about survey related issues. Research and respond to telephone and email inquiries from potential surveyors about the process of getting licensed, and from surveyors about the licensing laws and board rules.

Typical Functions

Direct all surveying related enforcement investigations including determining if probable cause exists to believe that a violation has occurred; and determining if the matter is within the jurisdiction of this Board. If the determination is made that there is probable cause to open a case, assign a surveyor investigator, plan timelines, and decide what evidence must be obtained to sustain the potential charges particularly in minimum standards and CCR cases. Keep complainants and respondents advised as to the status of surveying disciplinary cases; and, when necessary, explain actions taken by the enforcement committeeA Surveyor Investigator must thoroughly understand the the Board laws and rules in order to direct the survey investigation from intake to final resolution. The Investigator must recognize what elements will be required to prove the allegations in a complaint including what evidence is needed, what interviews must be conducted what witnesses should be compelled to testify; and must stay current with enforcement initiatives in other states.

Review all Professional Land Surveyor, Land Surveyor Intern and Land Surveying firm applications for completeness, accuracy and compliance with state statutes and rules. Be available for responding to questions from applicants and staff.

Level Descriptor

At this level of this job family employees are assigned responsibilities for supervising employees in an occupational safety and health program. It may also involve direction or oversight of facility or institutional programs, risk management analysis and planning and similar activities.

Special Requirements

Attend all Board meetings and present of Consent Orders in Surveying cases for ratification by Board Members, and respond to Board Member questions.

Be active in the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Attend Surveying and Law Enforcment forums, training sessions and other activities.

Additional Job Description

Assist as necessary with the development and administration of the OLS exams. Be willing to serve on committees and task forces related to surveying matters.
