Responsibilities*

Develop, adapt, and run numerical hydrodynamic, ecological, and biophysical models of the Great Lakes (e.g., models linked to the Finite Volume Community Ocean Model, FVCOM) using a high-performance computing system. Evaluate the performance and skill of ecological and hydrodynamic models of the Great Lakes by statistical comparison of modeled versus observed water quality, biological, and physical variables using R or Python. Coordinate technical tasks within CIGLR's biophysical modeling group, working in collaboration with CIGLR and NOAA lead investigators. May supervise professional research staff. Contribute to and lead publications and present findings at professional conferences.

Required Qualifications*

A master's degree in the natural sciences, engineering, or related field. 5 years experience working with coupled hydrodynamic and ecological models for lakes or oceans. Candidates with experience in only hydrodynamic or ecological modeling, but not coupling or combining the two, will not be considered.  Professional experience using R or Python to run coupled biological-physical models, perform data manipulation, execute statistical analyses, and generate figures Experience recording scholarly productivity commensurate with career stage, including co-authorship and lead-authorship on peer-reviewed manuscripts. Proficiency handling ecological and geophysical data in multiple formats such as R data objects, ASCII, and NetCDF.
