Under general direction of the Business Office Manager, the Switchboard Operator relays incoming, outgoing and inter-office calls and performs miscellaneous hospital communications/clerical duties as well as Business Office clerical duties. 

Essential Functions:

Utilizes appropriate verbal communications skills when conversing with patients and other persons, both on the phone and in person, to convey a high level of personal attention and promote customer satisfaction. Maintains confidentiality of patient information in all communication methods by strictly adhering to Hospital Confidentiality of Information policies. Promotes efficient and accurate processing of patient and department information by utilizing good communication skills among the Department Manager, PBX Coordinator, as well as other Hospital personnel. Notifies the Department Manager or PBX Coordinator immediately of any problems involving patient complaints, communication system or problems Answers calls, within reasonable amount of time, using good communication skills, and connects caller with proper party in order to expedite Hospital communications. Pages authorized personnel over the intercom system or through individual pagers; announces close of visiting hours and other notifications; ., fire alarms and Code 9. Records all transactions in a clear and accurate manner to provide for efficient retrieval of information in order to collect monies due in a timely manner.
