Job Summary

Coordinates, advises and assists with the development and identification of the more complex communication opportunities for the School District of

Essential Functions

•Collaborates with District offices to communicate information pertaining to programs and services to generate awareness and support for all stakeholders on District innovations and transformational initiatives.

•Participates in the planning, development and communication of information to keep District personnel informed of the District’s activities; promotes goodwill through such publicity efforts as speeches, films and question/answer sessions.

•Provides support to the Office of Communications on the utilization of multiple communication channels to support consistent information and understanding of challenges and successes for the School District of Philadelphia.

•Prepares oral presentations and writes reports to present findings of internal and external studies on District operations and the evaluation of educational programs; explains results and their implications to various audiences.

•Represents the District and administrative staff in meetings with internal audiences concerning District policies and administrative procedures.

•Plans, compiles, verifies, composes, and/or edits appropriate informational materials, newsletters, feature stories, articles, bulletins, manuals, booklets, pamphlets, brochures, internet web pages, and professional or other publications.

•Analyzes and evaluates the assigned informational program and recommends changes; suggests strategies for future communications, and makes recommendations for modified or new programs.

•Develops materials, displays, and programs to promote District services, missions, goals, and enhance consistency and accuracy in those efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

•Four years of full-time, paid, professional experience in communications, journalism, public affairs or a related field which has involved developing communications strategies to inform internal audiences on prominent matters.

OR

• Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of:

○Journalistic principles and practices and the techniques of planning, composing, and editing informational materials.

○ Communications techniques and procedures.

○Effective communications strategies.

○ Web and multi-media technologies for use as communication tools. ○Current social media tools, trends and techniques.

• Demonstrated ability to:

○Manage several complex projects simultaneously.

○ Exercise significant independence, initiative, and technical skill in the area of communications and public relations.

○ Respond to emergencies and to effect problem resolution processes. o Analyze and resolve complex problems. o Stimulate public interest and gain support for District programs.

o Make presentations to employee groups and the public. o Conduct research and find pertinent and newsworthy information.

○ Represent a superior at meetings and conferences.

○ Present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

○Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
