Overview

The laboratory of Dr. Robbie Majzner at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute is currently seeking an ambitious research technician to contribute to our innovative work on developing novel T-cell immunotherapies against pediatric solid tumors. Our approach involves utilizing cellular genetic engineering, flow cytometry, mouse models, and functional analyses, with the ultimate goal of designing new T cell receptors and conducting early phase clinical trials to test their efficacy.The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to support the day-to-day operations and administration of the Majzner Laboratory. In addition to this role, they will have the opportunity to actively participate in scientific projects and act as a liaison with clinical trial groups.The laboratory employs various techniques, including flow cytometry/fluorescence-activated cell sorting, immunological techniques and assays, working with mouse models, culturing primary cells, performing CRISPR/Cas9 experiments, cellular cloning, and CAR T-related design work. Therefore, previous experience with tissue culture is a required qualification, and any experience with mouse models, human patient samples, and imaging techniques would be highly desirable.If you are an aspiring scientist looking to enhance your skills and knowledge, joining our multidisciplinary team could be the perfect opportunity for you. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.( Responsibilities Facilitate lab day-to-day operations including, but not limited to ordering of necessary equipment and supplies, maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions and lead tasks related to safety compliance of the lab with established safety procedures.Maintain mouse colonies and participate in murine experiments, including, but not limited to, injections, euthanasia and demonstrate construct efficacy. Perform lite administrative duties, data entry, data analysis and maintain data files on research for future publication.Manipulate primary cell cultures for experimentation, including designing, planning and executing cloning of CAR-T cell constructs using traditional cloning techniques as well as infusion cloning and T-cell transductions using retro- or lentiviral vectors.Run assays with readouts in one or more of the following formats: flow cytometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and other bead-based and colorimetric assays. Design new CAR constructs that utilize novel signaling domains to achieve specificity and efficacy.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:No supervisory responsibilities. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.( Qualifications Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment. Must be able to provide standard care to research animals.Experience with lab animals is preferred but not required.Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.Bachelor’s Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred.Typically requires a minimum of 1-4 years related experience.Developing technical expertise, applies Institute policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.Builds productive internal/external working relationships.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.Ability to work within a team environment.At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.
