About the Opportunity
The +$100b Franklin Equity Group of Franklin Templeton is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Risk, Quant, and Portfolio Construction to play a pivotal role in our investment team and enhance our fundamental investment processes with pre-investment quantitative analytics and insights . This position requires a unique blend of deep quantitative skills , strategic risk management, innovative portfolio construction abilities, leadership, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be adept at enhancing investment returns within controlled risk levels, partnering with key portfolio management teams, leading others, and will serve as a key liaison with Franklin Templeton’s central risk team. This position will be located on-site in San Mateo, CA and looking for qualified candidates able to relocate to this location.What are the ongoing responsibilities of this role?
Advanced Risk Analysis:
Develop sophisticated tools and techniques to analyze portfolio risks, integrating this analysis into effective portfolio construction and management.Pre and Post Investment Quantitative Portfolio Analysis :
Utilize strong quantitative skills and methods to assist the portfolio management team in stock selection and portfolio construction decisions, as well as pre and post-investment analyses.Technology and Infrastructure Development :
Contribute to the development of technology infrastructure for modeling, optimization, back testing, analytics, and data management.Collaboration and Integration :
Act as the primary contact between the embedded Franklin Equity Group’s Risk, Quant and Portfolio construction team and Franklin Templeton’s independent and central risk team, driving improvements in systems, investment, and trading processes.Client and Internal Communication:
Present our risk management and quantitative analytics philosophy and processes to clients and internal partners, translating complex financial topics into comprehensible insights.Compliance and Performance Monitoring :
Ensure all direct investment portfolios conform to performance expectations, investment guidelines, risk parameters, and regulatory requirements.What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Doctoral degree and CFA or FRM strongly preferred . Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a research analyst or risk analyst role , with a proven track record in quantitative analysis, risk management, portfolio construction, and leading others. Technical Proficiency : Advanced knowledge in statistical theory, financial instruments, markets, and quantitative methods. Experience with tools such as Northfield, Barra, FactSet, Bloomberg, or similar investment data platforms. Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, and curiosity about emerging artificial intelligence and machine learning methodologies. Communication Skills : Exceptional ability to communicate complex financial concepts to diverse audiences, including Portfolio Managers and Chief Investment Officers. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate effectively in both independent and team environments. Problem-Solving : Excellent organizational skills and a diligent approach to problem-solving.Compensation Range : Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $225,000.00 to $260,000.00, plus an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
