This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College We are seeking our next Part-Time - AS NEEDED - Standardized Patient Specialist, who will train to portray specific sets of health problems and symptoms that will aide students in learning the proper techniques and procedures for taking medical histories, performing medical examinations, determining diagnoses and learning appropriate ways to educate and inform patient diagnoses.
*This position offers occasional part-time work on an as-needed basis
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree or higher in Healthcare.
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: Previous experience as a standardized patient or experience in health care.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend training on patient specifications. Present specific types of symptoms as defined by a patient case. Study and memorize patient history of present illness, past medical history, physical exam results. Simulate a variety of clinical scenarios including a patient's appearance, demeanor and affect, communication style, chief complaint, symptomatology, patient medical history, and physical finding. Showcase interviewing techniques and skills with Health Sciences students in the simulation center. Instruct and practice interviewing and demonstrating superficial physical assessment skills with Health Sciences students. Give feedback after interviewing the student in-person verbally, written, or electronically. Evaluate and assess the student's skills. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.) This scheduling of this position is PRN - as needed.
Working Environment: This job may operate in a variety of clinical settings.
Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades grade 10 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
