Responsibilities
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Assistant/Associate Provost is responsible for the college specific implementation of University policies, initiatives and processes related to faculty affairs, faculty development, and faculty engagement within the Colleges and Schools assigned to the Assistant/Associate Provost. In collaboration with the College and School Deans and the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. The Assistant/Associate Provost monitors the implementation of strategies, policies and services in the areas of faculty search and selection, hiring, credentialing, contracts, faculty appointments/promotion/tenure, faculty records, compensation, faculty advocacy, conflict resolution, performance review, awards and recognition, and assessment of faculty satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Implements and oversees compliance with faculty affairs policies within the colleges, including compliance with the faculty search and selection policy Ensures that faculty contracts and faculty compensation within the colleges aligns with faculty affairs practices and guidelines Coordinate with the Colleges in the development, implementation, revision, and communication/education of faculty appointment and promotion guidelines and processes Assist the Office of Faculty Records in the production and maintenance of faculty appointment/promotion reports for the University Board of Trustees and in the maintenance of accurate faculty records Oversee and ensure compliance with the university processes for annual performance review of the faculty within the colleges and schools Oversee the development and production of faculty data reports, as requested Proactively seek to support the Deans in providing a working environment that promotes the welfare and engagement of the faculty and encourages mentoring, professional advancement and development Coordinate with the Faculty Ombudsperson and appropriate individual(s) within the Colleges to reach an informal resolution of faculty-related conflicts Coordinate with the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and the Deans in the administration and analysis of methods that measure and assess faculty satisfaction; make recommendations to address the faculty’s needs and concerns as appropriate Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the University’s New Faculty Orientation program, including, as appropriate, coordinate with key personnel in the development/revision of pre-orientation materials Assist as necessary in the support of institutional faculty development programs and other faculty development initiatives Compile and prepare a variety of faculty data required for preparation of institutional reports and facilitate responses to external surveys (e.g., Annual Middle States Institutional Profile Survey; Annual Institutional Data Profile of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, Faculty Satisfaction Surveys, such as the AAMC Faculty Forward Engagement Survey) Coordinate responses from Schools to compile, edit, and write periodic TJU accreditation reports to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, e.g., Self-Study, Progress Report, and/or Periodic Review ReportInteracts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least 3 years’ experience in Faculty Affairs required.
