Our Haverhill campus offers all private rooms, and our Methuen campus offers a new state-of-the-art catheterization suite and Joint Center of Excellence named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.

Job Summary: Blood Bank Section Supervisor $10,000 Sign on Bonus.

Position Summary: This position provides direct supervision of the Laboratory and serves as the Blood Bank Section Head. Must maintain accurate test results, quality control and ensure the laboratory maintains compliance with regard to regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Establishes policies and procedures for Blood Bank. Obtains and processes specimens for laboratory testing according to department/section policy and procedures. Verifies accuracy of test specimen before testing. Performs technical procedures as required by department or director. Performs all testing in a timely manner as established by departmental policy and performs all tests with confidence. Inspects instruments and verifies that equipment is in proper working order before testing. Insures that test results correlate with each other and the patient’s clinical situation. Rechecks and reports to the Laboratory Director all questionable results. Follows and audits the Hospital critical value procedure. Demonstrates proficiency in performing all computer tasks associated with job responsibilities. Performs scheduled maintenance to assure proper operation of equipment and records the procedures performed. Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures and instrument checks correctly. Performs analytical and decision making functions with minimal supervision. Has working knowledge of the theory of laboratory procedures. Prepares and presents continuing education for department personnel. Applies step-by-step problem solving and thinking patterns. Supervises laboratory personnel as assigned to provide direction, support and technical ability to others. Audits the performance of all personnel in the department, ensures competencies are maintained and completes evening staff performance evaluations. Schedules all personnel in the department to meet staffing requirements as determined by the Laboratory Manager and Section Heads. Works with the Laboratory Director to maintain fiscal responsibility in their given section including salary and non-salary budget requirements. Establishes quality systems to ensure departmental goals are met and corrective action is taken if needed. Works with the Departments of Surgery and Oncology to ensure the blood products meet the needs of this patient population. Assists Laboratory Director in preparing reports and statistics for Administration and Nursing with regards to the Blood Bank. Maintains the Therapeutic Phlebotomy program. Responsible for department supply billing reconciliation and acts as a resource to the Business office for Blood Bank patient billing questions. Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or a Life Science. Certification/Licensure:  MT (ASCP), SBB preferred.
