Job Description

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an OSP Designer for our Utility Design Engineering team in Nashville The UDE team works with industry leading internet service providers across the United States to provide network engineering services.


The OSP Designer will work on the planning, designing, documenting, and permitting of proposed new outside plant backbone, middle mile, and FTTx and BAU build-outs.

Our utility design professionals provide turnkey land management services including right-of-way (ROW) acquisition and engineering, utility coordination, deed and title ownership research, environmental permitting, civil/site engineering and subsurface utility investigation. As leaders in geospatial and land surveying, we employ the most advanced survey methods available.


Responsibilities

Assist with fielding tasks (Engineering Design Notetaking for both aerial and underground, pole data collection, etc.). Demonstrate a basic understanding of applicable building codes and design codes (NEC, NESC, etc.). Review jurisdiction documentation and determine design parameters within Right-Of-Way with parameters provided. Identify basic components for site design in a Telecommunications fiber network. Exhibit understanding of basic Telecom, Fiber-Outside Plant (OSP) design (FTTX, MDU, wiring diagrams, splicing schematics, equipment types, etc.) and design FTTX network with parameters provided. Design/draft permit drawings with minimal guidance. Prepare specialty drawings (i.e., utility company submittals, railroads, interstate crossings, landmark designs, etc.) with parameters provided. Design Fiber-Optic network (FTTx) using ArcGIS software, or client-designated software, with parameters provided.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or related engineering degree preferred. Prior experience in linear utility engineering and design, and fiber-optic/coaxial OSP design preferred. EIT license preferred. Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, or similar software packages preferred. Experience with Vetro and IQGeo is preferred. Knowledge of local city, county, and state and utility permitting regulations preferred. Must be willing to travel to job sites as needed (maybe 10%). Valid drivers license required. Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
