The ASC Anesthesia Technician will assist the anesthesia care provider with acquiring, preparing and using equipment, supplies, and medications during the administration of anesthesia. May assist with special procedures and provide support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases. Provides peri-anesthesia support to anesthesia providers and perioperative team. Functions under supervision of the licensed anesthesia care provider during patient care.

Job Relationships

Reports to the ASC Nurse Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

Perform basic troubleshooting for monitors and equipment and report defective and/or malfunctioning equipment immediately. Clean, organize, disinfect, order/stock and maintain routine anesthesia equipment, supplies and work rooms. Participate in the requisitioning, storing and issuing of supplies and stocking, ensuring outdated supplies are discarded. Document and maintain preventative maintenance and quality records, ensuring equipment is in working order at all times. Promote effective working relationships with anesthesia department staff and work collaboratively with all other ASC department staff. Prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra and post anesthesia and with consideration and knowledge of age-specific issues related to meeting the needs of the various patient groups. Maintain efficiency through establishing priorities and organization. Maintain patient confidentiality. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Successful completion of two-year approved American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) program preferred but not required. RMA/CMA or two years experience in an Anesthesia Tech or similar role required. If RMA/CMA, must be through one of the following: American Med Technologists (AMT), American Assoc of Med Assistants (AAMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Licenses/Certificates

Current CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of procedures and medical terminology for the assigned specialized area preferred. Knowledge of methods, procedures and techniques in the decontamination, storage, preparation and sterilization of medical supplies, instruments and equipment preferred. Knowledge of aseptic and anesthesia techniques and methods used in the assigned specialized area preferred. Successful completion of two-year approved American Society of Anesthesia Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members. Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment. Must possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances. Knowledge of safety practices, including proper body mechanics to move and lift patients. Knowledge of universal precautions for handling blood and body fluids. Knowledge of various medical supplies, instruments and equipment used in a medical facility and surgical environment. Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and lifting. This job operates in a professional clinical environment. Must be able to adjust to various personalities and situations. Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Must maintain professional behavior.

Working Environment

Conditions include exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials. Occasional heavy lifting required.
