At Houston Methodist the Nurse PractitionerAC PRN position is responsible for functioning as a licensedregistered nurse and care provider to provide all aspects ofpatient care including diagnosis treatment and consultation whilemaintaining and promoting the health of the patient. This positionmay work in both inpatient and outpatient situations and performsaccording to the nurse practice act of the State of Texas and aspart of a treatment team. Role models compassionate communicationwith patients physicians and the interprofessional health careteam. The NPAC PRN position provides education to patients aboutpreventative care and prescribed treatments. This position may alsoconduct physicals order tests and serve as a patients healthcareprovider prescribing medications as appropriate. The NPAC PRNposition effects direct patient care according to the HoustonMethodist Professional Practice Model Nursing Practice andProfessional Performance policies and procedures.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Demonstratesleadership as a clinical resource interprofessional consultant andpatient advocate. Identifies staff development opportunities forprofessional growth of colleagues provides coaching to meetidentifiedgoals.
  • Communicatesorganizational information and aspects of administrative andclinical practice in a respectful and positive manner wheninteracting with staff. Advocates for a balanced workload promotespositive behaviors and peertopeer accountability. Facilitates thepromotion ofteamwork.
  • Collaborateswith the interprofessional healthcare team members tomanage/coordinate patient care. Advocates on patient/familys behalfto identify and resolve clinical and ethicalconcerns.
  • Collaborates tofoster healthy relationships in the work environment. Acts as arole model and coaches staff in effective verbal nonverbal andwritten communication. Serves as preceptor for Nurse Practitionerstudents and medical resident(s) as applicable. Uses peertopeeraccountability towards improvement of department score for employeeengagement.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Coordinatesappropriate timely patient care under physician supervision for adefined patient population(s) focusing on identified expectedunit/optimal outcomes individualized to the patient. Prioritizescare based on the patients needs abilities andpreferences.
  • Coordinatespatient care between healthcare providers. Attends and participatesin interdisciplinary rounds asappropriate.
  • Helps driveimprovement of department score for patient satisfaction throughpeertopeer accountability to servicestandards.

QUALITY/SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Functions as aquality care provider coordinating maintaining and promoting thehealth of the patient. Assist the interprofessional healthcare teamin the development and implementation of protocols to ensurepatient safety. Affects direct patient care according to the nursepractice act of the State of Texas and the Houston MethodistProfessional Practice Model Nursing Practice and ProfessionalPerformance.
  • Conductshealth assessments (initial ongoing discharge as appropriate).Identifies normal/abnormal health characteristics develops plan ofcare initiates appropriate interventions and evaluates careoutcomes on defined patientpopulations(s).
  • Performsinvasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures necessary for definedpatient population(s) based on licensure and credentialedprivileges.
  • Provides safeand effective care by leading and initiating outcome quality andsafety improvement activities in alignment with organizationalgoals. Demonstrates highly developed assessment clinicaldocumentation leadership and analytical skills; integrates andcontributes to professional practice standards policies proceduresprotocols and leads improvements in patient safetyrelatedprocesses.

FINANCEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Implementsdepartment strategies to achieve financial target and mentorsothers to do the same through timely documentation of caredecreasing length of stay optimizing efficiency and other areasaccording to departmentalspecifications.
  • Projectsawareness and understanding of resource allocation based on patientneeds and staff experience knowledge andskills.

GROWTH/INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Promotes qualityhealth care through integration of current research into practiceand participation in research/evidencebased activities. Leads andidentifies opportunities for practice changes and performanceimprovement.
  • Provideseducation of information/knowledge in professional activities suchas research presentations and publications. Expands individualnursing knowledge and coaches staff to grow in knowledge abilitiesskills and attitudes. Serves as clinical resource. Ensures owncareer discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes andupdates the My Development Plan on an ongoingbasis.

WORKEXPERIENCE
  • Two years ofRegistered Nurse advanced practice or nurse practitioner clinicalexperience.

  • BLS BasicLife Support (AHA) AND
  • ACLSAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) (not required for EmployeeHealth Primary Care and Telemedicine departments)AND
