Schedule: Monday – Thursday & Sunday afternoon

20 hours per week

Reports to: Pastor

SUMMARY

The liturgy coordinator’s primary responsibility is the coordination of the liturgical ministry of the Hispanic community and its ministries. This person will be responsible for the translation of liturgical material into the Spanish language, including the translation of parish bulletin content.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following duties:

Recruit and schedule all liturgical ministers, including lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, ushers, sacristans, greeters, and AV assistants. Provide training for all new ministers and ongoing training for existing ministers. Schedule/prepare mass intention lists for altar and presider. Prepare the weekly intercessions and announcements. Attend weekend Hispanic mass, holy day masses, Christmas, and Easter masses. Prepare liturgies for special liturgical events. Prepare mass scripts for special liturgical events. Coordinate and plan liturgy for baptisms, funerals/bereavements and provide vital information to families. Contact guest priests for scheduling or penance services or as presiders of the mass. Assist the pastoral secretary as needed to answer phone calls or to translate information. Assist staff to maintain monthly check of volunteer's compliance with Safe Environment/Virtus. Keeps current in developments/changes with archdiocesan policy. Attends and participates in staff meetings. Attends and facilitates liturgy and/or ministries meetings. Translates all liturgical material, announcements, liturgical events information. Translates from English to Spanish language presider's homily as he presents it during mass. Must have excellent communications skills. Must have good conflict resolution skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; must be a practicing Catholic and active in a parish; possess the ability to honor and maintain confidentiality; must work well with people of all walks of life and possess the ability to lead and train liturgical ministers. Must pass Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements and background screening.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – Degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies, Religious Education, or a related field or equivalent preferred. At least three years of ministry experience in a parish or diocesan position preferred.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE – Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher. Bilingual is a must. Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of the Second Vatican Council, Catechism of the Catholic Church and other relevant essential documents and publications. Strong knowledge of the Church's vision for evangelization and missionary discipleship. Knowledge of multi-cultural dimensions of parish life and the ability to work across cultures. Leadership and teambuilding abilities a must. Have excellent planning, organizational and collaborative skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others. Ability to follow directions and guidance of the Pastor. Ability to assess parish needs and resources to perform objectives and goals to fulfill the parish needs. Ability to work under pressure and time constraints, exercise good judgement and be able to work with frequent interruptions. Expected to work a flexible schedule approximately 20 hours per week that may include weekends and evenings. Able to assist in any parish duties assigned to staff.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read, analyze, and write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Strong communication skills: ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, and the general public. Must be fluent in verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.

REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and ability to interpret instructions furnished in writing or orally. Ability to adapt to changing schedules or routines, excellent time management skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel as required.
