POSITION SUMMARY: The adjunct faculty member is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the assigned student learning experiences in the classroom for the advanced pharmacology course.

NOTES OF CLARIFICATION

Adjunct faculty are usually non-ranked faculty (individuals previously ranked by this institution or another will be reviewed for title purposes). Hired on a temporary, “as needed” basis. The adjunct faculty member is expected to provide the availability to maintain a teaching schedule of at least one assignment per academic year. There is no limitation on the time a faculty member may be adjunct. Selection of adjunct faculty occurs by the Assoicate Dean of Nursing and the Graduate Nursing Program Director in collaboration with the APRN Program Coordinators. Adjunct faculty are evaluated annually by the Graduate Nursing Program Director with input from the Associate Dean of Nursing and APRN Program Coordinators as appropriate. Individuals who are now adjunct but who have previously worked as ranked faculty at Bellin College may not have to be interviewed for a regular faculty position so long as they have maintained their knowledge and skills in the interim of their absence. Adjunct faculty may apply for open faculty positions.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Visibly supportive of the College's mission and values. Complies with established course syllabus and schedule. Confers with other faculty assigned to the course and who teach the APRN core courses. Facilitates the teaching-learning process in the assigned area of pharmacology. Mentors students as necessary. Communicates key changes and/or concerns about student performance to the APRN Program Coordinators or the Graduate Nursing Program Director. Assists with student assessment and evaluations. Participates in structured course and program evaluations. Participates in the College-wide efforts related to continuous quality improvement. Maintains professional confidentiality. Promotes effective and positive working relationships with internal and external customers. Assists with various projects as delegated or as appropriate to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education - Licensures: The Wisconsin Code and accreditation criteria together require that faculty:

Holds a doctorate in nursing or a related field such as Pharm D, MD, or DO. Have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) License or PharmD, MD., or DO in the State of Wisconsin or Licensure Compact state. In addition, the College has identified the need for competency in applying principles of learning, in teaching, curriculum development, and in the clinical area of assignment. These competency requirements may be obtained through academic credit, institutes, extension courses, continuing education offerings, and experience. APRN program faculty must maintain current licensure and national certification within a population-focus and have clinical expertise within the content area(s).

Experience:

APRN faculty must have at least one year of advanced practice experience within their area of population-focus and maintain an active APRN practice. Non-APRN nursing faculty must have at least two years of full-time or equivalent direct care experience as a practicing Pharm D, MS or DO. Experience with distance learning pedagogy is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities & Characteristics:

Knowledge and competence appropriate to the area of teaching responsibility (pharmacology) are required.  The College has identified the need for competency in applying principles of teaching and learning in teaching, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. These competency requirements may be obtained through academic credit, continuing education offerings, or experience. Ability to use teaching, learning, and curriculum development and evaluation principles Effective interpersonal skills, which include the use of group process and counseling/guidance principles Computer competency in word processing, file management, and internal/external email Strong leadership skills which encompass organizational skills, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. Willingness to work with students to facilitate their learning.
