Job Summary
Responsible to the Director of the Office of Medical Simulation for overseeing personnel within the department, overseeing Standardized Patients, and assisting with internal and external customer relations and development. Assists with the collaboration of educational objectives for the office in application to the events and projects of the Office of Medical Simulation/Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities and perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.1. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to speak publicly. Must be able to represent the Office of Medical Simulation and interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, potential donors, and students.
2. Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Must be able to assess situations and adapt to a highly dynamic environment, and have the ability to manage multiple projects.
3. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and basic non-invasive diagnostic equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and ophthalmoscope/otoscope) as well as a general understanding of basic physical examination.
4. Must have excellent computer skills and the ability to use multiple computer programs as needed to accomplish essential job functions. Must be able to create and format documents in Word and Excel and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Must have a general knowledge of audio-video recording systems and a theoretical knowledge of medical simulators. Ability to use Blackboard is helpful.
5. Must have experience and skill in management of individuals and teams with a collaborative leadership style. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Nursing, Health, Behavioral Sciences, or closely related discipline.
Experience: 3 – 5 years of administrative experience, with a minimum of 3 years in higher education, preferably in a standardized, simulated or virtual patient environment, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated teaching/training ability required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or enrollment in Master’s program preferred.
Licenses: Licensure in related healthcare field, i.e. Nursing, PT, PA, etc.
CAE system/Medical Simulation experience preferred. List comments regarding work hours 40 hours per week, regular business hours. Posting Date 05/07/2024 Closing Date Special Instructions to Applicants Essential Job Duties Job Duty In collaboration with the Director, coordinates the overall planning and administration of educational and assessment activities for clinical skills, communications, and Standardized Patients. Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Supervises personnel within the Office of Medical Simulation through building and maintaining interpersonal relationships, completing performance evaluations, payroll approval, and providing personal and/or career development opportunities. Maintains a positive team culture in the department by promoting a respectful, collaborative, professional, and culturally sensitive environment. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Develops and oversees Standardized Patient protocols, applications, and tools used for training and performance including the oversight of recruiting, training, and scheduling of Standardized Patients. Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Manages and directs programs to meet the educational and clinical simulation needs of WesternU colleges. Collaborates with the Director and program staff to maintain high-quality service and educational innovation. Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Monitors the consistency and quality of assessment and examination. Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Maintains ongoing quality control levels and regularly reviews performance of Standardized Patients in clinical and communication events. Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Collaborates with Director, Simulation Operations Specialist, Standardized Patient Educators, and Administrative Assistant to identify and resolve calendar, space, resource, and logistical conflicts to ensure integrity of concurrent/overlapping Clinical Skills Lab and Sarkaria Family Patient Simulation Suite curricular activities. Assists in curriculum development pertaining to the use of skills manikins and other simulation devices, related to hybrid simulation/standardized patient activities. Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Works with Standardized Patient Educatorsto ensure Administrative Assistant receives completed booking sheets and materials necessary to invoice events in a timely manner. Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Supports the Director with day-to-day budget management for the department.
