Fire Alarm or Sprinkler Designer

Position Overview: The Fire Alarm or Sprinkler Designer will be responsible for designing fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems for commercial buildings. This role requires a highly detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of fire protection systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with design software and a solid knowledge of industry codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed fire alarm and sprinkler system designs for commercial projects.
- Create accurate and code-compliant design drawings and specifications.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
- Conduct site visits to gather necessary information for design development.
- Review and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical plans.
- Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Prepare material and equipment specifications and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with installation teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
- Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning phases.
- Maintain thorough documentation of designs and revisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire alarm and sprinkler system design.
- Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation programs.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, as well as local building codes.
- Excellent technical and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Water-Based Systems Layout is a plus.
