Description of Work

The College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) is one of nine colleges at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a comprehensive, land grant, Big10 research-intensive university. CEHS is one of a handful of colleges in the country whose programs span broad fields of education, health, wellness and fitness, human services, hospitality industries, textiles, and merchandising and fashion design. The Interim Associate Dean (1.0 FTE at 100% administration) has leadership and administrative responsibilities focused broadly on supporting faculty success that may include faculty searches and hiring, appointments and reappointments, workshops and mentoring, leaves, merit and salary, and promotion and tenure. The Interim Associate Dean will also support the Interim Dean, Department Chairs, Center Directors, Faculty Leads, Faculty, and Staff to ensure progress toward the College’s Grand Visions and daily operations. Leadership and Administration Work collaboratively with AVC for Faculty Affairs, IANR, ARD, and other campus offices on all aspects of faculty recruitment, hiring, appointments, reappointments, merit, salary and other personnel matters; Provide leadership in the development and implementation of effective strategies, practices, and policies to enhance faculty success and professional development to achieve outcomes articulated in the college’s strategic plan; Provide leadership and oversight for promotion and tenure, faculty development leave, faculty appointments and reappointments, faculty searches and hiring, faculty merit and salary Develop and implement regular review and enhancement of the college’s faculty development, achievements and opportunities for recognition; Foster an inclusive culture in which contributions are appreciated and recognized, collaboration and innovation are encouraged, and the abilities of all are engaged to fully recognize the potential of the team. Vision Develop goals with input from leadership, departments, research centers, and stakeholders that encompasses all programs and facilitates individual and collective efforts to enhance faculty success throughout all career levels; Provide support and leadership for the college’s vision as part of a comprehensive, research-intensive, land-grant university; and Work with leadership, faculty, staff, students and others to enhance inclusive excellence. Communication and Collaboration Work with the interim dean, department chairs, center directors, faculty leads, faculty, and staff to develop and implement a comprehensive agenda for faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, awards and recognition; Collaborate with the interim dean, department chairs, center directors, leads, faculty, and staff to provide leadership on special projects, reports, and college/university requirements in support of CEHS Grand Visions Work collaboratively with AVC for Faculty Affairs and other campus offices on all aspects of faculty recruitment, hiring, appointments, reappointments, merit, salary and other personnel matters; Serve as college liaison to the Faculty Affairs College Liaisons group led by Faculty Affairs in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor; Foster collaborative, interdisciplinary activity across academic units and with community, industry, and global partners; Ensure opportunities are inclusive of all constituencies and efforts are made to engage diverse audiences, especially those traditionally underrepresented; and Partner with the college’s communications team to share achievements and outcomes of faculty success. Represent CEHS and the interim dean’s office with internal and external constituencies. Personnel and Resource Management Facilitate and recognize achievement in teaching, research, outreach/service, Extension, innovation, and scholarly activity among faculty; Assist with college efforts to attract and retain a diverse faculty; Seek and deploy strategic resources to manage professional development, awards, and recognition for faculty at all ranks and stages of their career; Maintain a positive, productive environment; and Organize and support professional development, awards, and recognition for faculty. Teaching, Research, and Outreach Engage in academic responsibilities based on the applicant’s strengths, interests, and the needs of the home department and college. Compensation will be provided for the academic year (9 months), 1.5 months in the summer, and an administrative stipend. If 12-month employee, then 12-month salary will be covered as well as an administrative stipend.
