JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Sponsored Research Agreements, will play a pivotal role in leading and enhancing the pre-award aspects of sponsored project administration at our university, focusing on our Federal and University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) contracts.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Supervisory authority for research administrators on Sponsored Programs Office Pre-Award staff.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Sponsored Programs, this role is crucial for upholding the highest standards of quality control in our pre-award research operations. This includes establishing and enforcing standard operating procedures and managing the full spectrum of pre-award activities including proposal review, submission, and agreement negotiation. You will serve as the primary point of contact for a diverse portfolio of sponsored agreements including, but not limited to, Consulting Agreements, Consortium Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements (NDAs), Teaming Agreements, Cooperative Agreements, Clinical Trial Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Subawards, and Data Use Agreements (DUAs).

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and implement management strategies for Consulting Agreements to engage professional services that support institutional research goals.
  • Coordinate Consortium Agreements ensuring collaborative synergy and compliance among multiple research institutions.
  • Establish and maintain Confidentiality Agreements to protect sensitive research information.
  • Facilitate the preparation and execution of Teaming Agreements, promoting effective collaboration in proposal development and project execution.
  • Administer Cooperative Agreements with an emphasis on fulfilling the sponsor’s involvement and oversight requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Negotiate Clinical Trial Agreements to advance research involving human participants while ensuring adherence to regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Manage the process of Material Transfer Agreements, safeguarding the transfer and use of research materials between organizations.
  • Oversee the allocation and administration of Subawards, guaranteeing alignment with primary award conditions and collaborative research objectives.
  • Ensure that Data Use Agreements are in place for the secure sharing and utilization of data, aligning with data governance standards and privacy regulations.

  • Expertise in managing pre-award aspects of sponsored project administration within a university or research setting.
  • Specialized knowledge in sponsored research agreements and contract compliance.
  • Leadership ability to steer a team of professionals in administrative and contract management roles.
  • Advanced negotiation and communication skills coupled with the ability to conduct training and foster relationships.
  • Adept at implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures to elevate service quality and efficiency.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree is essential, with a Master's degree highly preferred, supplemented by experience in grant and contract administration.
  • Leadership experience is crucial, particularly in guiding a team dedicated to contract administration.
  • Exceptional organizational skills are a must, with the capacity to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • A proven track record in successful contract negotiations, aimed at forging strong alliances with sponsoring entities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the entire lifecycle of research award administration, from the proposal phase to the award set-up.
  • Must possess a understanding of working with federal and non-federal contract requirements.
