What Success Looks Like In This Job

The Community Relations Manager seeks to create engagement and connection with the citizens of Adams County through timely, complete, and accurate communications while fostering positive community engagement. The Community Relations Manager is also focused on department communication and engagement initiatives, oversees the Public Information Office, leads the Community Connections Team (CCT), and acts as liaison between the Sheriff’s Office, citizens, and community groups.

Examples of Duties for Success

Provides guidance and direction for the CCT’s media presence to include oversight of the PIO as the agency spokesperson and assists in the preparation of responses to media requests; provides accurate and timely information to news reporters, editors, online resources, and media outlets.  Oversees the dissemination of press releases. Oversees and monitors media coverage and the Sheriff’s Office social media platforms. Provides consultation and guidance to the Sheriff and the Executive Leadership Team on best practices for agency communications and public relations efforts and initiatives. Develops comprehensive communication strategies, that aim to create connection and engagement with the citizens of Adams County.  Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with community groups, citizens, and employees, and with various media outlets. Through collaboration with internal teams, develops marketing efforts to promote Sheriff’s Office events, initiatives, and community engagement.  Manages internal and external websites, including expanding and managing the content and improving the appearance and usability of the site. Keeps current with industry trends and emerging communications technologies, including social media, media relations, and evaluation metrics; Recommends new communication initiatives to broaden exposure. Acts as an ambassador by understanding and fostering the Sheriff’s Office mission and vision. Develops attractive and engaging marketing material in various media formats.  Represents the Sheriff’s Office alongside the CCT at various county and community events. Ensure all digital content meets accessibility standards and guidelines. Coach, mentor, guide and develop the employees on the CCT to support their growth and success in their positions. Develops and presents educational programs, speeches, and learning activities to provide information about public safety and crime prevention to a variety of audiences.  Fosters relationships with other Elected Officials and County Leadership Monitors budget, research information and prepare reports. Seeks and maintains certifications and memberships in associations as required.

Qualifications for Success

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Procedures, methods, and techniques used in effective oral presentations. English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Develop and utilize a variety of communication forms, including oral, visual, and written, including public speaking. Maintain effective and positive communications with a wide variety of individuals and groups.  Ability to work a flexible schedule to include on-call, extended/off hours, holidays, and weekends. Adapt to a flexible and fast-paced working environment. Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and standard software applications. Effectively coordinate and schedule a variety of activities and projects.

More Qualifications for Success

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college with major course work in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience working in a fast-paced communications environment including, but not limited to a newsroom, public relations and/or marketing firm or advocacy campaign. Demonstrated experience leading or managing a team of communications professionals.  Experience in community or public relations Previous experience working in law enforcement or local government highly desirable License/Certificate: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License  Background: Must pass an extensive criminal background check, including a CVSA or Polygraph and an integrity interview.
