COMPENSATION: Per Teacher Salary Schedule based on education and experience. District grants experience credit on the salary schedule for up to 10 years of prior, verifiable, contractual full-time teaching experience.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Reading, Literacy or related area desired Valid/registered Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a reading specialist endorsement and a bilingual Spanish endorsement. Minimum five years of successful teaching experience. Leadership Experience Primary Purpose:

The Literacy Specialist will be responsible for bringing evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with and supporting teachers and administration with the goal of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity in the area of literacy. The Literacy Specialist will foster the implementation of SD CCSS aligned ELA curriculum and resources. He or she will be responsible for modeling/co-teaching lessons, providing teacher feedback about their instruction on a regular basis, and providing specific instructional techniques, strategies and approaches to enhance instruction. The Literacy Specialist will work collaboratively with the Director of Professional Development to provide ongoing professional development to teachers and administration supporting literacy instruction. He or she will disaggregate and analyze a variety of data to plan collaboratively with teachers to meet the unique academics needs of each student.

Performance Responsibilities: Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership responsibility. Develop rapport with adult learners. Utilize in-depth knowledge of District ELA curriculum/resources to support implementation of new curriculum. Support the implementation of District K-5 Common Core State Standards of ELA scope and sequence. Support teachers in the development of formative assessments to guide instruction.  Provide support in analyzing and interpreting test scores to plan for instruction.  Support PLCs. Responsible to assist teachers in using the common core standards for ELA in daily instruction.  Knowledge and effective use of technology including instructional technology software and tools.  Knowledge in effective teaching strategies, peer coaching, mentoring, and development/delivery of professional development.  Recommend professional development opportunities as identified through observations, conversations, and building/district needs.  Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.  Participate in curriculum, staff meetings, and other programs within the assigned schools and on a District level.  Attend training, workshops/conferences as needed.  Strong leadership, oral, writing, and interpersonal skills.
