Job Summary

ESY (Summer School) Occupational Therapist
4 weeks - June 4 - July 3
Hours: 8:45am -12:15pm
$53.13 - $65.22

Job Description / Essential Elements:

Job Description: Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Services, provides educationally related occupational therapist services to special education students.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Conducts assessments of students to determine eligibility for occupational therapy services;
  • Plans and develops appropriate intervention IEP goals and objectives, and adaptations that are educationally relevant;
  • Provides group therapy to selected children and classes; provides consultation to educational staff and parents for classroom and home management of perceptual, motor, sensory, and self-care programs.
  • Participates in meetings to coordinate occupational therapy goals with the total educational program.
  • Conducts in-service or other training programs for district personnel on the role of the occupational therapy as an educational service, normal sensory-motor development as related to learning, identification of sensory-motor deficits.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge of:
  • The special education process with regard to IEP development, goal writing and IEP implementation.
  • Principles and methods of occupational therapeutic techniques.
  • Theory of physical and mental rehabilitation underlying the practices of occupational therapy.
  • Objectives of occupational therapy treatment and services.
  • Skeletal anatomy, neuromuscular function and dysfunction
  • Kinesiology and occupational therapy modalities.
  • Principles of consultation, training and supervision.
  • Principles and methods sensory integration and modulation.
  • Assistive technology to facilitate the learning process and modify the learning environment for disabled students.
Ability to:
  • Work in an educational environment.
  • Identify and analyze areas of developmental and sensory-motor dysfunction.
  • Provide consultation for classroom and home management of motor, sensory, perceptual, and self-care programs.
  • Work effectively with students on the Autism spectrum.
  • Train special education staff on how to integrate OT techniques into the classroom and school environment.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
  • Speak and write effectively.
Experience:

Any combination of training and experience, which will provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying.

Education:

Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Other Requirements:
  • A valid California driver's license. Possess a certificate of registration with the national Registry of the American Therapy Association or eligibility for such registration. Ability to sit stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
