OverviewAs a Research Intern, you will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team, contributing to research initiatives focused on substance use disorders, recovery support services, justice system involvement, and policy implementation. This hybrid internship provides a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, fostering an environment where your academic pursuits align with real-world application. Engage with a team of experienced researchers and staff, receiving personalized mentoring, and participating in research to support the use of data in decision-making for intervention and policy implementation. This internship offers a chance to deepen your knowledge, enhance your skills, and explore potential career paths within the field.ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include actively contributing to implementation science and substance use-related research by gathering data parameters, generating creative solutions to research tasks, searching relevant scientific literature and media reports and developing visually-pleasing, user-friendly dissemination materials. Throughout your internship, you'll meet one-on-one with various professionals, gaining insights into potential career trajectories. Uphold Chestnuts commitment to customer service excellence, maintain the confidentiality and security of organizational information, and collaborate with your internship supervisor to fulfill any necessary paperwork for academic credit.Qualifications Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, pursuing a degree in fields such as psychology, human services, education, public health, criminal justice, public policy, social work, health economics, communications, engineering, biostatistics or related disciplines. Personal or professional interest in substance use disorders, recovery support services, mental health promotion, and/or the justice system Basic skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn additional software programs Preferred: Experience with software for visualizing data, such as ArcGIS, or simulation modeling, such as Vensim PLE Preferred: Lived experience (your own or through people with whom you are close) with one or more of the following: recovery from substance use, former involvement with the adult criminal justice system, former involvement with the juvenile justice system Strong attention to detail required. Preferred: Experience with conducting qualitative research methods such as interviewing research participants, conducting group interviews, or experience with economic evaluation methods such as cost-effectiveness analysis, cost analyses, etc., or experience with systems science methods such as system dynamics.
