Job Title: Medical Technologists – Veterans Affairs (VA) New Hampshire
Location: VA Manchester Medical Center, 718 Smyth Road Manchester, NH 03104

Period of Performance: Full-time position- 1 year base contract
(possible extension)
Start Date: 05/01/2024
Salary:
The compensation for a Medical Technologist is $30.50 per hour + $4.57 health & welfare allowance which = $35.07 per hour.
Clearance Requirement:
Must be able to pass a NACI background check/ still checking for background clearance requirements.
Preference:
The Medical Technologist (MT) is a nationally certified MT with one (1) year of recent chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology experience.
Additional: Work shift schedules vary from- Day, Evening & Night shifts

Functional Responsibility:
Chemistry:
The employee will be expected to perform routine chemistry testing on automated
instrumentation (Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, Tosoh G8, Advanced Instruments Osmos,
Polymedco OC80, manual chemistry tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and
instrument maintenance.

Urinalysis:
The employee will be expected to perform routine chemistry and urinalysis testing on
automated instrumentation (Iris, Advanced Instruments Osmos, Polymedco OC80, manual chemistry
tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and instrument maintenance.
· Blood Bank: The employee will be expected to perform routine blood bank duties including cross
matching, antibody screening and identification, selected cell panels, processing in blood and blood
products as part of the weekly issue or emergency requests, and routine daily and weekly quality control
procedures using tube and gel technology.

Hematology/Coagulation:
The employee will be expected to perform routine hematology and
coagulation testing on automated instrumentation (Sysmex XN, ACL Top, Alcor iSed, manual
hematology and coagulation tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and instrument
maintenance.

Microbiology:
The employee will be expected to perform routine microbiology testing including
manual and automated testing. These duties shall include plating, gram staining, reading plates,
subbing plates, Microscan setup, PCR testing, and other microbiology routine procedures.
· Phlebotomy: The employee will perform patient phlebotomy to include inpatient ward rounds,
inpatient and outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT and as soon as possible (ASAP), and
timed draws. The employee will be expected to perform sample processing.
· Safety: Positively identifies patients before sample collection and samples before testing or
aliquoting. Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.
· Independently tests, evaluates, documents, and reports patient testing and Quality Control (QC);
identifies, documents, and resolves any collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.

· Assures patient-centered care and provides service in a manner that is professional and will avoid
complaints from all stakeholders and customers.
· Performs patient and QC testing according to established protocols and is active in the College of
American Pathologists (CAP) Proficiency Testing (PT) Program.
· May participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee
participation as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
· May attend staff meetings as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
· Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation according to the laboratory quality plan and all
quality assurance protocols.
· Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Make every effort to
prevent errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of
care.
Qualifications:
The Medical Technologist (MT) is a nationally certified MT with one (1) year of recent chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology experience.
Must be a nationally certified MT.
Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak,
understand, read, and write English fluently.
Shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations that govern medical staff behavior.
