SummaryThe Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to designated residents in a safe and organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with medications, documentation of medication assistance, and resident care. The Certified Medication Technician must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with the resident, the resident's family and all team members. She/ he must be able to observe and report changes in the resident's physical condition or behavior. She /he also carries out all other duties of a Resident Assistant.Responsible for:Ensure that the attainmentof Victory Housing, Inc. Mission Statement takes precedence over all decisionsand actionsAdheres to all VictoryHousing policies and procedures, COMAR 10.07.14 regulations as well as County,State and Federal guidelines including by limited to DOH, CDC, CMS, and OSHAAt all times, implementsuniversal precautions and infectious disease control protocols. Wear assigned PPE appropriately per policyand as requestedComplete all assignedtraining including initial orientation, COMAR 10.07.14 requirements, monthlyin-services, HIPAA, VHI required personal care and skills modules. Participates in required safety anddisaster drills as assigned and mandatedCoordinates with RegisteredNurse/LPN on all matters relating to the Clinical Program and MedicationDelivery SystemRead and document pertinentand objective information in the Communication Log for Resident updates, statuschanges and/or observationsAdminister Medications and Treatments utilizing the EMAR platform. Administration includes: Prepare appropriate medication for med-pass (with attention to the following):* Correct drug* Correct resident* Correct route* Correct dosage* Correct time* Right Charting Ensure medications are not expiredBring medications to Resident in either suite or common areas in a discreteapproved location. (No meds passed in dining room, living roometc.)Ensure confidentiality ofResident medication among other Residents, Visitors, Volunteers etc Check photo of Residentor ask name prior to administering medicationOffer water, juice and/orapple sauce (if prescribed by PCP/NP) with medications. Make sure to observe each Resident swallowing medicationDocument completion ofResident medication administration in EMR. Inthe event the system is down, neatly document the med-pass on the paper MARimmediately after each passDocument legibly Resident concerns made during med- passIn the event a Residentrefuses to take prescribed medication, document the file and immediately reportto the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/CoordinatorAnswer Resident questions or concerns regarding medicationsUpon completion ofmedication pass, return all non-dispensed medication to the cart. Lock the cartWash hands before and aftermedication pass or whenever medication comes in contact with your hands. Adhere to Universal Precautions whenadministering all medications. Handsanitizer may be used in lieu of washing hands if hands are not soiledPrepare Resident'smedications to accompany them on short-term absences from the Community. Document medication record legiblyMaintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart and Wellness CenterRestock medication cart withcups and spoons after medication pass is completedAdhere to narcotics countpolicy. Count, verify, sign and datethe two check narcotics count at thebeginning and completion of each shiftIf Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator is not at Community, assist withmedication delivery by pharmacy. Reportany discrepancies to the Delegating RN/LPN/CoordinatorAssist with Resident careand physical support. This mayinclude assistance after a fall; assistance from bed, bath, or shower;assistance with toileting; assistance during an emergency evacuation, etcInitiate and complete incident reports per policy and procedurePromote the concept ofdignity for all Residents and support the team in creatively meeting ResidentneedsPromote working togetherthrough sharing responsibilities and information with the Management, Clinicaland Care TeamsEnsure quality of care. Set standards and create a sense of security for the ResidentsCommunicate with the Health,Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator regarding all Resident health care andwellness issuesServe meals in the dining room with the utmost attention tohospitality and customer service. Ifrequired, deliver meals on a well-appointed tray to resident in their suiteResponsibilities in the dining room include:Wheelchairs are notpermitted in dining room. Residentsare to be walked to dining roomtable and assisted into their chairSet tables according toposted diagram. Make sure allcondiments, butter, creamers, jellies are on each tableHave beverage stand preparedand ready to pourHave tray stands strategically placed in dining room and ready to servefrom per Victory Housing policies and proceduresCheck to guarantee all residents are in dining room prior to startingmeal service; locate and assist residents to dining room as necessaryAssist in serving meals according to serving pattern or assigned tables. Greet residents and request theirchoice and portion size for the mealAll meals are to be servedat safe and allowable temperature, covered and in compliance with safe foodhandling practicesBe available to bring seconds if requested or to assist with individual needs such as cutting of meatOffer beverage refills throughout each meal. Hydration is criticalClear dishes as residents finish each courseOffer diabetic desserts if appropriateEnsure a safe environment by following safety procedures for: lifting and transferringsmokingfire and disaster report of unsafe and/or unsanitary conditions completing accident reports when appropriate storage of chemicals following proper infection control techniques assisting housekeeping personnel as needed reporting any equipment malfunction to appropriate partyMaintain good public relations through positive and professional attitude at all timesWork closely with your co-workers to support the team. Maintain a happy and supportive atmosphere through music,smiles and a helping handAttend monthly Staff Meetings and scheduled training sessionsAnswer help and call bellswithin 3 minutes maximum and take prompt actionAssist in answering incoming telephone calls in a professional mannerPerform other tasksas assigned by supervisorRequirements:Must be current on all vaccinations including COVID- 19 andreceive CDC recommended booster doses
