The purpose of the Museum Access & Equity Coordinator is to support community engagement with individuals and groups historically marginalized from museum experiences. Develop and maintain relationships with people who represent a broader diversity of voices and experiences, ultimately better reflecting our region's community members in our organization. Work within and beyond the museum to build and strengthen relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders to help to create a more equitable present and future for the museum.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support community partner relationships to strengthen Museum Access outcomes while meeting partner needs. This includes inviting, tending, collaborating, and creatively maintaining relationships.
  • Support project leads on cross-departmental projects and initiatives. This includes drafting communication to other museum staff, participating in cross-departmental meetings and departments to increase the diversity of perspectives that inform their work.
  • Support equity, access, inclusion and liberation activities and initiatives for the museum staff community in alignment with division priorities and museum-wide vision, strategy and values.
  • Support program evaluation and reporting by drafting text, preparing supporting documents, reading, and providing concrete feedback.
  • Support project delivery through scheduling, attending to project logistics, and collaborating with project leads to reach intended outcomes.
  • Provide occasional, basic facilitation of internal and external meetings.
  • Connect with or refer potential partners to appropriate museum staff members when needed.
  • Attend department and division meetings to collaboratively advance the vision and direction of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma/GED

Experience:
  • Experience working with a diversity of racial/ethnic cultural groups, specifically people from backgrounds underrepresented in science, technology, engineering & mathematics education and careers
  • Experience maintaining verbal and written communication with those involved in the projects
    • Proven experience advancing racial, gender & economic equity in your work - Understanding of and a personal commitment to social justice
    • Experience providing work direction for staff, interns or volunteers in programmatic or customer service roles, preferably in an informal education setting
    • Fluency in language(s) other than English valued but not required
Work Environment:
  • High-paced, collaborative work environment where individuals actively support each other in their endeavors.
  • Requires ability to work year-round with a semi-flexible schedule.
  • The schedule involves occasional, planned evening and weekend work.


Starting Compensation: $19.47-$21.07/hour (depending on qualifications) - Grade 4
