Job Description

This position is responsible for participating in the development, implementation, user adoption and usage, and support of clinical systems that support the strategic plan of the organization. This position jointly reports to the CMIO.

As a member of the Information Technology Services Department, the Clinical Informatics Analyst will support activities required for successful screen/form design and build of clinical applications and maintaining such system to department standards and customer satisfaction. Promoting excellent customer support and service are key requirements of this position.

Responsibilities

System Analysis:

• Participates in the analysis of current state work flows

• Assists in the design, development and implementation of evidenced-based and best practices, as identified by project teams and end users, specifically related to order management, clinical documentation, and reporting

• Actively participates in the analysis of decision support data to optimize system efficiencies

Physician and End User Support/Training:

• Assists with physician and end user informatics needs

• Supports continuous training efforts of new and existing users in collaboration with the education department and unit based educators

• Assists in the requisition of end user requests in support of existing system functionality and introduction of new technology/functionality

• Assists in the communication, education, and training of system changes to physicians and end users

Clinical Systems Support - Implementations/Upgrades/Enhancements:

• Actively participates in project work groups

• Works with project team members to complete individual assignment(s) as it related to the development, implementation, and revisions of IT system.

• Acts as a liaison between internal clients and project director from point of project conception through project completion

• Assists in operational process reviews to ensure efficient use of information systems and labor resources

• Actively participates in the design, plan, and coordination of system analysis, workflow analysis, and process changes as a result of the implementation of IT systems

• Actively participates in work plans for system implementation in conjunction with other members of the IT services department

• Actively participates with end user testing, approval, and sign-off of system upgrades and enhancements

Technical Builds:

• Assist in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of the clinical information systems build to support excellence in patient care and outcomes

• Collaborates with the application system analysts in the build, test, and implementation of system upgrades and enhancements

• Assist with issue resolution related to system build issues impacting patient safety, efficiency, and quality of care

• Participates in IT vendor selection process for software and implementation vendors

• Works in partnership with clinical and IT staff to translate clinical requirements into system specifications in support of system enhancement requests

• Provides support to the application system analyst in evaluating technical issues

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in a healthcare discipline.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

3 - 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting with ideally information technology experience in a healthcare setting.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Understanding and experience with the design, implementation, and support of advanced clinical systems.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively to support a diverse group of clinical and non-clinical end-users. Must be approachable, and be able to present data with effective communication and presentation skills. Must be an effective consensus builder. Must possess a good grasp of clinical workflow in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Clinical certification required.
