Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Consult with and keep supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems with regards to patients.Administer medications, perform treatments as prescribed, make rounds with physicians and assist as needed, discontinue IV's, changing dressings, apply suction, give catheter care, check tubing and drain bags, take vital signs, and perform charting duties under the general supervision of an RN.Assist in admit of patients, assist in obtaining required information, take and transcribe physician orders and place in EMR, provide for patient comfort and ensure that room is adequately supplied, prepare patients for meals, pass trays, assist or feed patients as needed.Will have input into the patient's care plan with the primary registered nurse.Give a.m. and p.m. care such as baths, personal hygiene, oral care, etc. and prepare patients for naps and bedtime; give bedpans, urinals, assist patients to commode or bathroom, collect specimens as ordered, ambulate patients, reposition patients; take and record vital signs, check and record intake and output, observe patients for color and condition of skin, response to medications, treatments, symptoms, adverse reactions, emesis, drainage and discharges, bleeding, and record observations and report to supervisor or physician as required.Monitor patients for critical changes and initiate emergency procedures as required.Institute nursing measures to prevent patients from developing complications and alleviate discomfort and pain.Inform supervisor if standards of care are not being met.Check medical equipment, IV's etc. for proper functioning and report problems.Answer call lights, telephones and respond as appropriate.Perform various cleaning procedures as needed.Adheres to hospital policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, infection control and quality assurance program.Maintain all required records, reports, statistics etc.Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.Participate in educational programs and in service meetings. Attend meetings as required.Follow all Hospital Safety standards and participate in Safety Training.Actively participate in team oriented decision making process. Is a team player, willing to be flexible and open to others ideas.Focus portions of daily work towards high customer satisfaction. Expected to report conduct that is known or suspected to be illegal or in violation of the organizational policy. Reporting may be in person or in writing to supervisor or manager, Compliance Officer or verbally through Compliance Reporting Line (ext.5442).Performs other duties as directed by a proper authority as indicated in an approved Hospital policyQUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma plus graduation from a recognized Practical Nursing program.Must have a current LPN license to practice in the state of Iowa.BLS within 6 months of hire.Hospital experience preferred.
