Description

The Origination Director will spearhead origination efforts from early-stage development to submission of request for proposals (RFPs), to negotiation of offtake agreements focusing on wind, solar, and battery storage technologies. This role involves leading the sourcing, negotiation, and structuring of electricity offtake contracts, developing strategies, and advising on commodity risk management. The role is vital to building and maintaining relationships across U.S. power markets with various customer categories.

The role will be based in Cubico's Austin office, reporting to the USA Head of Origination & Execution (O&E), and supporting the USA Country Head.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead asset power sales strategies in collaboration with the Investment and Development teams.
  • Maintain and expand relationships across the US with various stakeholders, including commodity traders, corporates, and utilities.
  • Achieve revenue and margin targets for off-take agreements.
  • Manage existing contracts and execute revenue contracts, including power, renewable energy credits (RECs), capacity, and ancillary services.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISDA, Cfd, busbar offtake, WSPP, floors, and collar structures
  • Provide market intelligence updates and monitor energy market trends, including staying informed on emerging contract structures, TSO rules, and market fundamentals.
  • Handle project management and responses to RFPs, offer pricing, and coordinate with relevant teams.
  • Optimize power revenue streams in collaboration with investment teams and financing partners.
  • Review operating facility budgets and participate in long-term planning exercises.
  • Engage with O&E team members in other markets to ensure that global relationships are covered and leveraged appropriately and knowledge is shared appropriately.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The successful candidate will have:
  • 7- 10 years' experience in the origination and negotiation of offtake agreements in the U.S. market.
  • Proven track record in solar, battery, and wind acquisition processes.
  • Strong experience in structuring and analysing PPAs (physical & financial).
  • In-depth knowledge of US renewable market and regulations.
  • Established network with offtake customers and developers, including experience in regulated and unregulated markets.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across cultures.
  • Strong commercial acumen and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage tight deadlines, and maintain high standards.
