Position Summary:

The Operating Room Nurse works within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients in the operating room. Adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures is required. Patient care assignment may include neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct care to assigned patients in the operating room as required
  • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained
  • Institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
  • Clean patient care rooms, equipment, and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels
  • Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notify a nurse and/or physician
  • Administer medications and monitor results, excluding IV medications, via the Seven Rights and document and communicate clinical findings

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Experience: No minimum experience required
  • Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire, licensed registered nurse in state of practice
  • Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Working Conditions: May be exposed to hazardous materials that require personal protective equipment (PPE), limited access to medication room
