Job Summary:

The director of public relations and development creates and maintains a positive public voice, identity, and image for Artesia General Hospital. The duties include writing and publishing press releases, providing responses to the media's information requests, and monitoring public opinions of Artesia General Hospital using social media, surveys, or polls. The high-level role is to Artesia General Hospital's company image.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drafts press releases and help Artesia General determine the tone it needs to use across social media platforms.
  • Help ensure brand consistency across marketing materials; coordinate collateral into consistent branding.
  • Continually review the website for up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Assist patients and the surrounding communities in understanding what Artesia General Hospital offers.
  • Planning, developing and directing PR programs; providing a consistent, positive message in the communities we serve and within the organization to bolster brand recognition and financial growth.
  • Help marketing teams tell effective brand stories.
  • Respond to information requests from customers, patients, employees, and the communities we serve as well as members of the media.
  • Writing and editing speeches.
  • Developing annual strategic plan updates utilizing updated community health needs assessment, financial trending, quality measures, budget and forecasting, capital needs, and operational trending.
  • Website and media presence to align with mission, vision, and values.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate internal and external activities with appropriate stakeholders, such as foundation and human resources.
  • Attend and participate in community functions as a representative of Artesia General Hospital in the communities we serve.
  • Train and mentor a junior PR and development person.
  • Be a liaison with the Chambers of Commerce in the communities we serve (Artesia, Carlsbad, Roswell, and Hobbs).
  • Introduce new lines of service to the communities' providers we serve.
  • Work with CFO to understand which lines of service need to be boosted, then develop and implement a plan to address the issues identified.
  • Review all collateral pieces and look for ways to streamline costs while maintaining the highest standards.
  • Review sponsorship opportunities and donation requests to present to the CEO/Leadership for approval; find the ones that are the greatest compliment to Artesia General Hospital and its mission, vision, and values.
  • Review and approve all media contracts, making sure the quality and costs associated with the supplied service or product are accurate.
  • Facilitate speaking engagements for our providers in the communities we serve.
  • Provide ideas and initiatives to help boost morale internally; create and distribute quarterly employee newsletter.
  • Research victories and identify areas needing improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to always represent Artesia General Hospital professionally.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with the latest PR trends and best practices.
AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

Information Management: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.

Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education - Minimum of a Bachelors' degree, preferably in Public Relations, Marketing or Media Communications, or Business/Healthcare Administration.
  • Work Experience - Three years in Public Relations or Marketing. Healthcare experience desired.
  • Training - Current trends training, Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, Adobe Pro.
  • License/Certification - N/A


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood or other body fluids.
