Job Description:

Description: The Sonographer Echo Vascular PRN performs complex 2-D echocardiography, color flow and echo doppler procedures along with performing complex lower, upper venous and arterial procedures carotid dopplers and lower segmental pressures on all patients as prescribed by the medical provider.

Typical Duties:

  1. Assists the Cardiologist or his designee along with other staff in stress echocardiography and transesophageal echo procedures.
  2. Performs complex lower and upper venous and arterial procedures along with lower segmental pressures, carotid doppler and vein mapping.
  3. Positions and immobilizes patient on exam table and observes during scan under direction of physician. Monitors video display of area being scanned and adjusts density or contrast to improve picture quality. Reviews and evaluates computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  4. Views sonograms, adjusts equipment to obtain images, including color distinctions and distinguishes audible sounds.
  5. Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in the sonographic procedure in the proper sequence.
  6. Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal results. Reports equipment problems and failures to Bio-Medical or Manager.
  7. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam room.
  8. Maintains yearly competency, mandatory District education, professional registry, state licensure, and education requirements.
  9. Assists in duties that are necessary to provide quality patient care and success of the Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Service area.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Associates Degree from an accredited college or university. OR Graduate from an American Medical Association (AMA) approved school. 2 plus years of echo and vascular experience in a hospital setting.
Preferred Education and Experience: 4 plus years of echocardiography and vascular experience in a hospital setting (i.e. echocardiography, venous, arterial and renal dopplers).
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and must be maintained throughout employment. Current registry in echocardiography. OR Current registry in Vascular Sonography.
Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Dual Registry in Echocardiography and Vascular Sonography. Renal Doppler Training. Pediatric echocardiography.
