Profile

Requirements and Responsibility of the Bus Driver

As the first point of contact, the Bus Driver ensures that high-quality customer service is provided. They operate different types of buses safely through light to heavy city and freeway traffic, following specified routes. The Bus Driver may only stop at designated stops in the order prescribed, unless communicated otherwise by the Dispatch Office, to optimize all routes. They comply with all federal, state, and local laws about the operation of buses, traffic, and safety.

The Bus Driver assists customers, including those with disabilities, in a safe, friendly, courteous, and helpful manner. They also promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. The Bus Driver must comply with all company safety rules and operate assigned vehicles to meet customer standards.

To ensure safety, the Bus Driver must be able to operate all equipment, including farebox, lift, radio, emergency equipment, hatches, and rear engine compartment door, safely, efficiently, and adequately. They perform pre-trip inspections and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) to ensure that the bus and equipment are in safe, proper working condition.

The Bus Driver coordinates detour, accident, and incident information to radio dispatch and responds to instructions given. They must make effective, independent decisions and manage conflicts based on safety, experience, training, and policies. The Bus Driver follows procedures for collecting, processing, and documenting fares and counting passengers as required.

In case of accidents or unusual incidents in, on, or near RATP Dev vehicles, the Bus Driver reports and follows up properly. Other duties may be required.

The Bus Driver must be at least 21 or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Additionally, the candidate must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical Exam.
