Job Summary

We are searching for a Sleep Technology Specialist - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide technical support in the patient care area in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0 to 18 years) and adults as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality patient-centered care, scoring and reporting of sleep services.
  • Demonstrates a mastery of technical and procedural requirements to consistently produce high quality neurodiagnostic sleep studies; can adapt all procedures to clinical circumstances; monitors and/or eliminates causes of artifact; and consistently and properly labels recordings.
  • Day Shift Responsibilities. Conducts efficient and accurate scoring, and reporting of sleep studies and ensures quality assurance. Demonstrates a mastery of technical and procedural requirements to consistently produce high quality. Neurodiagnostic sleep studies, MSLT's and other sleep services; can adapt all procedures to clinical circumstances, monitors and/or eliminates causes of artifact; and consistently and properly labels recordings: Functions independently and is able to apply basic, intermediate and advanced waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices.
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, medical staff and other hospital personnel using Situation Background Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) and critical language methodologies to ensure high quality safe patient care, recording and scoring of findings that occur during patient care.
  • Participates in pre- and post-huddles during scheduled shift and participates as appropriate in the on-call technologist rotation.
  • Informs manager or designee of all patient/personal injury or unsafe situations, anticipated problems and unusual situations; completes appropriate related documentation according to departmental and hospital guidelines.
  • Supports the patient family dyad through information sharing and support prior to, during and transitioning to home post procedure.
  • Maintains Environment of Care. Troubleshoots equipment and reports all equipment repairs as soon as the need is detected to manager, Biomedical Engineering, vendor, or other appropriate and authorized individuals.
  • Tracks inventory, restocks supplies, and ensures all equipment is in working condition prior to each patient test. Maintains clean environment, strict adherence to infection control, and always ensures patient safety and comfort.
  • Performs other essential job duties.
  • Works at alternative locations as needed to support patient care at the discretion of direct supervisor/manager or designee.
  • Ensures completion of all departmental, regulatory and professional training requirements.
  • Participates in mentoring, training, research, and professional educational activities, as requested.
  • Acts as a formal preceptor for staff when assigned.
Qualifications
  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Required High school diploma or GED required. Preferred graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sleep program
  • Licenses and Certifications:
  • BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association
  • RPSGT - Reg Polysomnographic Technolog by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • CCSH - Cert Clinical Sleep Health by the Board of Clinical Sleep Health
  • REEGT - Reg Electroencephalogra Tech by the Board of Registered Electroencephalographic Technologists
  • RST - Registered Sleep Technologist by the American Board of Sleep Medicine
  • RRT CERT - Cert-Reg Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • 4 years' experience in pediatric sleep medicine, including one 1-year experience in formal teaching OR as a formal TCH preceptor
