Job Goal:

Provide clerical and technical support to the Special Education Solutions Department to ensure efficiency in effective operation of the Special Education Department and the Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC) in support of Region 4 Education Service Center goals and objectives

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Experience:
  1. Two years of clerical/secretarial experience using financial accounting and inventory software to manage inventory, process invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, price quotes and contracts
  2. Two years of experience in supporting educational and assistive technology management
Special Knowledge and Skills:
  1. Basic literacy and math skills
  2. Proficient in use of technology (e.g. computer, iPad) and file (electronic and hard copy) maintenance
  3. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills for working face-to-face, virtually and over the phone with customers
  4. Basic proficiency in the use of software related to office operations (including financial software, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  5. Basic proficiency in instructional and assistive technology support
  6. Demonstrated independence in skills needed to support and maintain technology and inventory
  7. Ability to exercise initiative, effective decision-making and to maintain confidentiality
  8. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  9. Strong attention to detail
Preferred:
  1. Valid Texas instructional and/or clerical aide certificate
  2. Bachelor's degree in related area
Major Responsibilities:

Assistive Technology Resource Center
In coordination with Resource Specialist:
  1. Work cooperatively with internal and external customers to support the successful implementation of training and technical assistance, including setting up for technology-based training workshops.
  2. Assist with the management of ATRC lab equipment, loan programs and inventories, including training and technical assistance preparation, checkouts/returns, maintenance/repairs, and upgrades.
  3. Maintain ATRC in a neat and orderly manner including workstations, storage, and visual displays.
  4. Perform technology backups, installations, refreshes, or updates regularly.
  5. Install a variety of technology programs or applications following complex directions.
  6. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve routine problems (e.g. technology, scheduling) and arrange for maintenance and repair as needed.
  7. Maintain inventory of supplies for ATRC (e.g. office supplies).
  8. Attend meetings and engage in professional learning to maintain or build skills related to the work of the ATRC.
Department Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the department secretary to set timelines and prioritize assignments.
  2. Identify and implement initiatives to improve the efficiency of the department's clerical workflow.
  3. Support the department in maintaining an effective and professional office environment.
  4. Create and proofread service agreements and accompanying files.
  5. Receive, review, and submit approval requests from specialists, including but not limited to professional development session handouts and printing requests. This could include requests for leave or time and effort and technical assistance entry.
  6. Assist specialists with workshops by preparing materials, ensuring correct room arrangements, managing registration, and post-workshop cleanup.
  7. Answer phone calls from customers regarding services and workshops and relay information to specialists.
  8. Assist education and resource specialists with travel arrangements.
  9. Inventory and order supplies as needed for education and resource specialist(s).
  10. Process requisitions, expense forms, direct pays, invoices, purchase orders, and interdepartmental bills.
  11. Provide technical assistance and services as specified by any applicable federal grant that funds this position.
  12. Attend meetings and engage in professional learning to maintain or build skills related to the work of the department.

Schedule Considerations

This position will be on-site only and will require a traditional five days per week, eight hour per day, work schedule.

Frequent use of standard office and assistive technology equipment; prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions (keyboarding and use of mouse); occasional moderate to light lifting and carrying (15 - 44 pounds); may work prolonged and irregular hours; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
