Nutrition Advisor for FEWS NET 8 US based remote

Position Description/Summary:

FEWS NET is dedicated to delivering early warning of hazards, food insecurity, vulnerability, and famine to the US Government, USAID, national governments, and various regional, international, and non-governmental organizations. FEWS NET 8 will continue the critical work that FEWS NET has delivered for over 30 years, emphasizing global coverage and innovation in food security monitoring and assessment. Managed from a headquarters office in Washington D.C., FEWS NET 8 will extend its reach beyond traditional geographical limitations, providing decision support services for over 30 presence countries and global early warning of food security and humanitarian crises.
The Nutrition Advisor will spearhead the assessment of nutrition programs relevant to FEWS NET operations and will identify opportunities to better integrate nutrition-sensitive approaches into programming and prioritization efforts. The individual will advocate for comprehensive nutrition-sensitive approaches within FEWS NET decision-support functions and closely related food security programming.
Responsibilities:
* Lead the development and implementation of nutrition assessment methodologies to identify malnutrition risks and needs among target populations.
* Design nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions to address the identified needs, ensuring alignment with global standards and best practices.
* Collaborate with other team members to integrate or flag nutrition considerations within relevant food security and livelihood programs.
* Develop training materials and conduct capacity-building sessions on nutrition for project staff, partners, and stakeholders.
* Stay informed on the latest research and developments in the field of nutrition, translating new evidence into practical programmatic actions.
* Advocate for the importance of nutrition within the context of food security, raising awareness among communities, partners, and policymakers.
* Lead the preparation of nutrition-related content for reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials.
* Provide technical guidance and support to field teams in the implementation of nutrition assessments and interventions.
* Minimum graduate degree in a relevant field such as nutrition, international development, agriculture, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in nutrition-sensitive programming and assessment, preferably within the food security and early warning domain.
* Strong understanding of USAID policies and procedures.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
* Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
* Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is advantageous.
* Current U.S. work authorization is required at the time of application.
