Summary

This internship comes with a matching scholarship of $3,000.00 for MPA student attending the University of North Texas, dependent on the student's academic standing and record. Any student in the metroplex is encouraged to apply.

Under general direction of the City Manager or their designated appointee(s), assists the City Manager's Office staff, department directors, and various staff members in completing various administrative tasks and special and ongoing projects.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the operations and administration of the City Manager's Office by providing professional support, research, analysis, and performance of special assignments.
  • Assists with performing special projects for assigned departments which may include researching and compiling data, analyzing results, preparing reports or illustrative materials, or recommending proposed actions.
  • Participates in various meetings, tours, and department rotations to learn about the operations and administration of the Town.
  • Processes a variety of administrative forms; maintains and updates Town records and information systems; prepares correspondence, reports, records, and administrative documents.
  • Responds to citizen requests for information by mail, phone, or in person; may be asked to resolve citizen complaints.
  • Assists in administrative tasks, such as data entry, phone answering, greeting customers, and filing as directed.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly, or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent; AND
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business, or related field; AND
  • Student in a graduate program of study in Public Administration; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License; safe driving record.
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of records maintenance procedures and practices.
  • Skill in typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
  • Skill in maintaining sensitive and confidential information and records.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contracts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions.

This is a part-time non-benefitted position. Routine schedule is generally 20 hours per week on assigned days during Monday through Friday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. May be required to work overtime if needed.
