Compliance Specialist

As a Compliance Specialist in the consumer products industry, your primary responsibility is to ensure that the organization complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the manufacturing, labeling, and distribution of consumer goods. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement and maintain compliance programs, mitigate risks, and uphold the company's commitment to quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay current on federal, state, and international regulations impacting the consumer products industry.
- Interpret and communicate compliance requirements to stakeholders, ensuring adherence to product safety and quality standards.
- Product Labeling and Documentation:
- Collaborate with product development, graphics and buying teams to ensure accurate and compliant product labeling.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all products, including safety data sheets (SDS) and regulatory filings.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure that consumer products meet or exceed regulatory and industry standards.
- Conduct regular quality control checks and collaborate with production teams to address any non-compliance issues.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct risk assessments related to product compliance and safety.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate compliance risks, collaborating with relevant departments.
- Audits and Inspections:
- Prepare for and assist in regulatory audits and inspections.
- Address findings and implement corrective actions to maintain compliance.
- Training and Education:
- Provide training sessions to employees on compliance policies and industry regulations.
- Keep staff informed about changes in consumer product safety standards and best practices.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective communication regarding compliance initiatives.
- Prepare and present regular reports on compliance activities, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
- Track monitor and maintain the compliance budget.
- Supplier and Vendor Compliance:
- Evaluate and monitor the compliance of suppliers and vendors with regard to consumer product regulations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with product safety testing protocols and certification processes.
- Highly self-motivated
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver excellent customer experience.
- Knowledge of consumer product safety regulations, such as those set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other relevant authorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as regulatory affairs, quality assurance, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in product compliance, quality, import/export, global sourcing, product development or related field
- Experience and proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft365 including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and web-browsers like Google Chrome
