Robotics Engineer

Medford Massachusetts, United States Tufts University Full time
Overview:
The core purpose of the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) is to improve education through engineering. In doing so, we hope to accomplish four goals: (1) increase students' excitement for learning math and science; (2) give students skills that will make learning more enjoyable in all subjects; (3) increase technical literacy for all; and (4) increase the awareness of the importance of engineering for society. To achieve these goals, we work to: (1) teach science, technology, and mathematics using the engineering process as the learning vehicle; (2) teach the engineering process itself; and (3) teach students how to design solutions by combining individual experiences and math/science knowledge. To learn more about the CEEO, visit (url removed).

What You'll Do:
As part of a 25 year long collaboration with LEGO Education, the Robotics Engineer will increase community support and outreach though firmware development.  Note this will be a Tufts website and GitHub - not a LEGO one.

Essential Functions:

Lead the supporting website and GitHub

• Develop/test/publish new versions of firmware
• Support an interactive forum
• Develop “instructables” for how to get started
• Build galleries of example code for the existing firmware

Participate in all aspects of the LEGO-supported work

• Run small pilot tests (including IRB)
• Oversee undergrad and grad researchers
• Support LEGO tools in Tufts classrooms

Participate in CEEO related work to support being part of the CEEO community

• Attend CEEO meetings, events, retreats, and committee work when appropriate
• Present work for events relevant to showcase the Robotics Engineer’s work on CEEO projects to different audiences
• Document and support social media postings to support CEEO

What We're Looking For:
Basic Requirements:

Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

Extensive LEGO robotics experience
Classroom experience (as a teacher)
Firmware development experience (“full stack” - from C++ in the firmware backend to UI design / JavaScript for the user)
Micropython, C++, LabVIEW skills
Methodology experience (measuring student thinking, IRB, etc)
Circuit board design and fabrication
Makerspace knowledge (laser cutters, 3D printers, etc)

 Preferred Qualifications:
