The Manager, Government Affairs for HMH is responsible for assisting the VP, Government Affairs in the development and management of strategies to inform and influence public policy at the local, county, state, and federal levels on issues and areas of interest to HMH. The Director provides support and management of execution of government affairs activities (including legislative, regulatory and policy issues). The Director will advocate for HMH interests at the local, county, state and federal levels and will build and maintain relationships with other organizations and entities whose interests are similar or whose functions affect HMH.

Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Manager, Government Affairs at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Reports to the VP, Government Affairs and is responsible for staying abreast of all local, state and federal issues affecting HMH. 2. Assists in building and maintaining relationships in Washington, DC and Trenton with appointed and elected officials and staff to maintain their awareness of proposals and legislative matters that may affect HMH.

Researches, monitors, analyzes, and evaluates legislation and regulation issues that may have an impact on HMH to determine needs for action and recommend action to be taken to the Executive Team.

Maintains state and federal tracking mechanisms to support government affairs activities and in compliance with state and federal lobbying laws. Conducts legislative analysis on health care policy issues and summarizes and analyzes policy and program implementation documents.

Drafts position papers and legislation that accurately reflect the interest of HMH.

Develops and implements a communication program to keep the HMH administration informed on governmental issues affecting HMH at all levels of government.

Develops reports and publications to inform internal and external constituencies of HMH activities.

Provides accurate, thorough, and timely information about public policy developments to HMH and possesses a wide knowledge of the functions and operations of the enterprise and corporate objectives.

Assist with planning of visits, tours, meetings, and roundtables with legislators, regulators, and/or community stakeholders to highlight HMH priorities and initiatives.

Create presentations or draft memos on policy issues for use by the government relations department or other HMH leadership.

Provides general direction and mentorship to other Government Affairs team members.

Coordinate with contracted legislative and regulatory consultants.

Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein as assigned by the VP, Government Affairs.

Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Bachelor's degree.

Minimum of 8 years in a field related to Government Relations. Background in the healthcare industry and New Jersey or Federal Government relations.

Experienced in state government affairs and has demonstrated a consistent track record of success.

An understanding of the impact of legislation and public policy in the field of health care.

A connection to the state and federal network needed to achieve goals, and ability to help pass or have an impact on legislation.

Ability to create and establish projects within the broad guidelines of the HMH government relations agenda.

Ability to meet priorities and strict timelines of projects as self-determined or as needed.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Advanced degree in Law, Public Policy, and/or health-related field.

Leadership experience, as the position may manage staff based on expansion of team.
