TITLE:                       Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (multiple openings)

 

Duties:                     Prepare and maintain supplies and diagnostic imaging equipment. Prepare patients for exams by taking their medical history and informing them about the procedure. Attach electrodes to the patient's chest and to the ultrasound equipment to monitor the patient's heart rhythm. Perform, analyze, and document results of 2-D, M-Mode, and Doppler echocardiograms as ordered by a physician to identify possible cardiac disorders. Recognize the difference between normal and abnormal images and interpret the significance of various diagnostic tests. Measure heart wall thickness and chamber sizes and compare measurement to standard norms to identify abnormalities in the heart. Evaluate heart valves and vessels, measure blood flow velocities and calculate data for evaluation of cardiac function by a physician. Perform moderate to complex congenital echos and safe operation of ultrasound equipment to ensure high quality diagnostic images. Responsible for completing preliminary reports and all other aspects of patient care documentation following the established charting procedure.

REQUIREMENTS:     Bachelor’s degree in Health Science or related field of study and four (4) years of clinical experience and three (3) years of experience in pediatric or adult congenital cardiology.

 

                                   In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree and stated experience, employer will accept no degree and six (6) years of clinical experience and five (5) years of experience in pediatric or adult congenital cardiology.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS:     Also requires experience in the following:

 

Current certification with one of the following: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiac Credentialing International (CCI). If not certified, must initiate certification process within 12 months of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
